To all the people I said this to, I demand an apology!!! Because you was really mean to me when i said this, now cgi has gone and found proof for me, now to prove my ps3 is undertracked theory i am going to have to dig hard this weekend, because i am fed of of certain people here thinking it is possible to have as many as 3 million ps3's hanging around at the end of december.

Yes, that was clearly more the case for the PS1 and PS2.

Higher specifications and higher entry pricing go hand in hand, thus more expensive devices are much better affordable to people who earn more money. Also making optimal usage of the PS3 requires an upgrade in home electronics like a surround sound setup and HDTV and not all kids are allowed easy internet access by their parents (for online only gaming like the excellent Warhawk or MAG, or excellent online only distributed content like Super Stardust HD or Trine). Most kids seem to have to settle with their parent's yesteryear's SDTV.

Of course the sales damage which would result from this was heavily invested on by Sony, so the PS3 faired much better than for instance the 3DO despite based on the specs the PS3 ought to have been priced higher in comparison. Probably the 3DO had a relative mature gaming audience of early adopters as well compared to for instance the PS1.

Are you saying that Sony did the right thing with the PS3?

For me personally, absolutely. (Not everything, but in general)

For dissapointed kids, probably not.

What about Sony themselves? Having lost nearly 4.5 billion dollar on their gaming devision since PS3 is released, which means the losses on PS3 are even bigger if we add the profit from PS2 and PSP to that number. No way they will ever make that money back.

Congrats for the PS3 for being selling on par with PS1.

I never saw so much joice about the 3rd place in a gen before :)

This is all while the PlayStation of gen 7 has yet to see a full WW release of a Final Fantasy or a Gran Turismo. I think Sony's good fortunes may just be getting started.

actually playstation was the new face on the block against sega and nintendo.

sega was on is own mess, and nintendo kicked third party out.

ps3 may get a nice boost this fiscal year, going from 13+ million to 15 or 16.
