According to the latest Nintendo report of sales, the majority of Wii Fit Plus sales come from the balance board bundle, not the standalone game, so it might be safe to assume that Balance Board already surpassed the PS3 instaled base, or at least is very very close to achieve that.


Is it the first time in history that an expensive peripheral surpasses the sales of a major home console?

I'm just throwing those out there, but I'm sure that Guitar Hero Guitars have higher sales despite competition. Game Genie was 50$ at launch, and the dance pads are roughly 80-100. However, the dance pads have an insane amount of competition, especially from the 15-25$ pads. Yeah rumble packs were only like 30$...but hey.

And yes, there are definitely many more millions of dance pads than there are BBs.

A year ago, This thread would've been at 200 post already. Sadly Nintendo ruined the fun with wiifit plus.

Don't worry, there will be plenty off chances to compare games sales to hardware sales.

Pardon, I thought you were trying to say that attach rate to the purchase of wii fit would be higher than what people are saying it is.

Hmm ok so onyl 55% of WFPlus sales are from Balance board.

That makes a gap of ~2.5 million to the BB surpass PS3.

It will definitely happen.

Those are cheap peripherals (rumble pack? LOOL for god's sake) and didn't got as much support as the balance board to be considered "platforms" on their own.

As for the dance pad I'm pretty sure it hadn't that stellar sales and the games it has might be all from the same company, not a variety of 3rd party support like the BB.

I don't even know. I think I was trying to say the Guitar Hero controllers and such can be purchased separately.
