This difference in shipped/shipping and sold isnt anywhere near as serious as people think:

The PS3 has sold 1.2m, averaging 300k per week since the end of 2009.

The 360 has sold 0.81m averaging 202k per week since the end of 2009.

The PS3 shipped v VGC is around 2.8m or 9 weeks stock

The 360 shiped v VGC is around 1.9m or 9 weeks stock

Is this hard to believe still?

Going by the same logic, Wii should be at 64.5m or so then. Big deal right there

And you can't say that Wii is selling out as an excuse because we have no confirmation of it and the same is said about PS3. Nor can't you say that Nintendo shipment figures go a different way since the same could be applied for PS3 or X360. What now?

I hadnt looked at Wii, but if you apply the same calculation then:

Wii shipped 67m v VGC 65m which means only about 4 or 5 weeks in the system, based on 400 to 500k per week

So I cant argue with you there... and I cant explain the Wii VGC numbers being so high when current stock levels at stores arent an issue and demand is still high..... there doesnt seem to be much slack in the system.  But it isnt way off is it?

I am just saying 360 and PS3 numbers seem reasonable.

No they're not reasonable, reasonable would be if remaining stocks for the 360 were tracked slightly higher than those of PS3, because 360 has had more shelf space  and lesser sales than PS3 in Q3 and begining Q4. But current VGC numbers (excluding any January shipment) show only 1.3 million 360 sitting around while PS3 has 2 million... that's where numbers definitely become unreasonable.

And if you add the fact that Sony shipped 6.5 million consoles while MS shipped 5.5 in Q3, those figures become even more unreasonable (May I remind you that, according to VGC, PS3 outsold the 360 by nearly 2 million in Q3 and begining Q4 ?)

So you are saying that sony are the only hardware company in the world that quote sold through to end customer and not retail?

So they report sold to consumers but only include the revenue from sold to retaill?  because obviuouslty they cant include the cash revenue numbers for sold to customers because that has nothing to do with them...

you dont understand how business, profit and loss and balance sheets work if you believe that sony report sold to consumers.

Why are you all worked up like that?

Sony obviously reports sold (to retailers) numbers. Retailers have bought 33.5 million PS3s and 60.1 million PSPs from Sony so far. Not unlike other businesses, retailers only buy the PS3s and PSPs from Sony if consumers buy them. If consumers don't, the retailers wouldn't buy more from Sony until their current stock is getting sold.

It is possible that retailers may have more stock than what they have thought people would buy from them, but that number would still be somewhat understandable. But here, according to VGC, we have +7 million PSPs unsold from retailers to consumers... Retailers are not that naive and so they wouldn't buy 4+ million units from Sony just in the last quarter while they still had 5+ millions unsold units sitting on their shelves from the previous quarters (like this site suggests).

See, it's not really that hard to understand.

and by january one xO PSP its seriously WAY understracked-

they are not 7 million psp floating around-

look at DS while it sells a lot, by now their stock should have complete dry and shoudl be huge shortages

I think it's safe to say that until the end of 2009, 37 m of 360 and 32.5 m of PS3 were sold.

If we all really care about the official numbers.....(I know somebody still think only VGC's numbers are correct... )

6.5 mil PS3s - Great.

4.2 mil PSPs - Bad.

2.1 mil PS2s - Amazing for a ten years console.

The end of September ship totals was 33.5m for x360. VGC sales for Oct 03 - 31,962,871.
The end of December ship totals for PS3 are 33.5m. VGC sales for Jan 02 - 30,850,496.
And there were some shortages for 120gb PS3 model in NA during January.

So PS3 is there, where x360 was in September. That is VERY close.

PSP has to be undertracked on this site IMO... Dont tell me that there are over 6 million units waiting...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Don't forget sony #'s are sold to consumer MS #'s are sold to stores.

Sony is finally making a significant profit, that's most impressive.

no you are wrong both of them report to retailers.

3 million on shelves is way too high no matter how you look at it.

why do some of you guys say 2 million on shelves?it's about 3 million and not 2 million on shelves.
