I agree with ioi, could be a mistake by Peter Dille

Right, he is in charge of the PSN ins't he? Didn't Stringer say 33m?

That and... the actual shipped numbers are out now... so there isn't really a reason to keep argueing about this.  It indeed was about 33 million.  33.5 shipped actually.

The guy must be talking sellthrough numbers.  Which is as stated, very rare for Sony to do.  It may actually be the first time.

I'm a bit confused, so the numbers that are on this site are the amount of units that the consumers or retailers buy?

This site tracks sold to consumers.  What Stringer and Sony were reporting were shipped numbers.  As was Dille's 360 figure.

Shipped numbers are what they sold told to retailers correct? Shouldn't that count as actual sales since what retailers sell goes into their own pockets? Sorry to pick your brain  with all these questions.

LOL. These arent shortages. These are phase outs in 1 or 2 stores. LOL.

Like I said nothing at all from IGN ro Websites in general or Sony themselves about shortages. Anyways now we know the shipped figure is 33.5 million we know there wasnt shortages. Over 2 million sat in shops around the world.

nah those aren't phase out.they were out of stock till around 20th of January last month.they just didn't have any stock atall.there were just 250gbs in stock,no 120gbs were available cause they were all sold out

and just because ign didn't do an article doesn't means that it didn't happen.IGN hasn't written an article on many issues of gaming does it mean that those things didn't happed

There were official articles about a console being sold out.

That console was NOT the Playstation 3.

http://www.industrygamers.com/news/ps3-to-see-best-growth-in-january-as-wii-suffers-meaningful-shortages-says-analyst/

There would of been an article had this been the case.

If anything considering what this guy said vs Sony's official shipped numbers... they've got like 2.7 million consoles on shelves world wide.

you should know by now that wat bullshit analysts say.the only time when there were Wii shortages were from the end of january.

the whole first half of january and the last 10 days of dec,ps3 120gbs were out of stock everywhere.only 250gbs were available.apparantly sony shipped more 250gbs cause they are making little(or profit)on them.

There is always a few shortages with certain shops in certain cities or areas. The pure fact that Sony has more PS3's on shelves than M$ has 360's should tell you there is no shortage.

For finacial reports sure. The numbers NPD and VGchartz provide have their own value though. For example it helps predict future shipped numbers.. since stores will only take so much stock. For software it makes theorizing about sequels more possible etc.

they were not just in some shops, every online retailer was out.can online retailers as big as amazon and other be out of stock for 30 days.no they can't

there were only 250gbs.sony shipped way more 250gbs as they are making lesser losses on the 250gb one's.250gbs were available the whole time but consumers don't buy as many 350gb ps3 as they do the 120gb ones cause they are costlier

Thats not shortages, it's Sony's fault. They made a decision to make 250's. Thats not a shortage. Thats a poor business model.

Hes basically saying that sonys dead last. Thats something that microsoft would never admit if they were last place. I'm starting to get a good impression of sony.

Well, we have no solid proof of that. Since joining the industry, Microsoft has never been dead last, at least not to my knowledge. To know how they would react, they'd have to fall there first.

As for Sony, of course they admit that they're losing. Would be kind of silly to say anything else, no?

Well if you remember, greenberg was a little shy on christmas sales when being asked about it. Both nintendo and sony gave their numbers, while greenberg responded "twice as much". Why is it that he couldn't give the exact number? Because the xbox 360 sold the least out of the three.

For them being dead last, there was one point where the playstation 3 actually outsold the xbox 360 in worldwide sales. Although that didn't last long.

And as for sony losing, I think this is typical thinking to say that a company is losing because of it being third place. "Quality over quantity" should be the mindset. Not the other way round.

wow, going to extremes, how do you think MS fanboys will react when PS3 passes the 360 in sales, is there going to be mass suicides in the U.S. , i dont think so. Not meant to be a troll but a comparison to the ridiculous claim by the poster.

thats not shortages?then what the hell are they, they shipped so many 120gbs and got sold out and shipped 250gb ones which were costly which didn't sell out.obviosly those were shortages of 120gbs.people wanted 120gbs but they got sold out
