I personally like the old PS3 design better than the Slim, so my advice would be to keep it and rather buy games for the money.
I would never give away my big fat white PS3. :)

you should keep it, you don't know if it's going to break anytime soon(or ever) just keep playing on it for now, who knows, maybe the slim be be even cheaper by time your PS3 breaks(again..IF it breaks down)
