Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto on lack of online support in New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I'm not a fan of online gaming either, but I like having the option to chose whether to see my rivals faces or not... I have a lot of friends who live in other places and would love to play a game with them, specially this game... Anyway, it's awesome nevertheless

For me, I have several siblings who can play with me, like when we played SMW so many years ago. None of my friends at school own Wiis (it is not masculine or something) so I wouldn't be playing anyone from there. Also, doing a random game with people I don't know would just be stupid.

What if you are several levels ahead of who you want to play with? It is like one person having Versus Mode in Resident Evil 5 and the other person doesn't? I'm guessing demo play would be disabled, regardless if the levels were too hard or not.

I don't know, other people want online, but I frankly could care less about it.

Wow, look at all the Nintendo fans defending this.

Here is the truth. I want to play with my childhood friends who live in another town for this game. Plain and simple.

It's one thing to not have online play, another to come up with BS excuse for it.

Then don't buy this game?

I like to see my friends their faces when I pwn them and insult them and stuff. Having some snacks on the table, throwing cats on them bc they're afraid of them, etc

You just can't do that online.

your missin to point still or refusing to get it....its NOT A EITHER OR....you can still have your offline and enjoy with friends you with regularly..but wat about ppl WHO DONT HAVE THAT or ppl with long distance friends ...can a online component be givin to them?

I'd suggest they get close distance friends, it's not that hard

If you have no close distance friends... Well, glad I'm not like that...(I can understand that some people don't have friends if they just moved, but friends will come eventually)

I love Miyamoto to death, but that is just a typical BS PR excuse... I remember reading an article during E3 where Miyamoto was asked about the lack of multiplayer in NSMB Wii, and his excuse then was that "the Wii simply isn't powerful enough to handle it."

Dude... it's a friggin 2-D MARIO GAME!!! Mario Kart Wii, The Conduit, and Call of Duty 4 & 5 all feature 12-player online support for MP, and they are sure as hell pushing the hardware a lot more than NSMB Wii, which is basically a higher res, 16 x 9 version of the DS game in the visuals department!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

yes it is "either, or". If you want online you can't have local. Them's the rules.

Perhaps he meant it wasn't possible with the gameplay he wanted to offer?

Even the smallest amount of lag would destroy the online part for this game.

And a lag less online wii game? Haven't seen one so far. We all know wii isn't the best console for online games(which is the fault of Nintendo)

I've always valued single player and local multi-player A LOT more then online part of a game. I see the online part of a game like a little extra.

In my opinion the only games that should have online are fighting games(soul calibur, tekken, etc), racing games(MKW, GT5,etc) and typical fps(...)

Online in Mario platformer would be lame! Get over it. It doesn't belong in a Mario platformer, and hopefully Nintendo will never ever include it.

Your young dude you can make all the new friends you want in the dorms, in a few years when you have a full time job, wife, and kids it just doesn't work that way anymore.  You can make friends at work that you go out to happy hour for a few drinks with, but you don't really make friends at work where they come over to play a Mario game with you!!!

i found the "there would be no online support for New Super Mario Bros. Wii because the game uses all of the console’s processing power" bullshit.. if it used the consoles processing power how did mario galaxy, metroid, Zelda work on wii then?

but still who cares about online on this game, i mean the game would be to confusing online

Please talk for yourself.

I know my best friends already since I was 4. And what would be the problem if I had kids? I'd just play with Mario with them :)
