Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii 10 mln. or PS3 5 mln. in Japan. Who first?

Sales are now 8,536,862 Wii VS PS3 3,593,866.

Wii is getting pricecut in Japan + some new games VS PS3 is getting FFXIII + recent pricecut and new slim model.

My call is PS3.

PS3 should get there first. Demand for PS3 is on the rise in Japan. The demand for Wii in Japan has slowed down.

Well, i'm saying Wii: after the price cut the PS3 and Wii sales should be a lot near, maybe Wii over PS3 just because it's more popoular...than there is NSMBW (i think November) which can likely outsell FFXIII (if famitsu is right) in just 2-3 months, especially if bundled.

Wouldn't it be funny if both reach their next milestones in the same week?

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

I´d still bank on Wii to get there first. We have yet to see the effect on the forthcoming pricecut and there are a lot of games to drive hardwaresales for the remainer of the year. Nintendo also have traditionally huge holidays.

Wii will reach 10m before PS3 reaches 5m. We're probably looking at 30k vs 15k this week in Japan but from next week onwards (with the exception of FFXIII release week) Wii should be ahead and will therefore sell-through 1.5m quicker.

I agree except for next week when I think Wii will get very low sales in anitcipation for the pricecut. I´ve heard reports on stores showing signs of the forthcoming pricecut and therefore selling very little hardware. Could Wii get below 10k next week? I hope not but if it does then it´s just "pricecutsigns" and nothing to worry about. After that it will surely pick up good and most likely stay above PS3.

Of course Wii first. Price cut and new super mario bros will do.

It will probably be very close, although we will have a better idea once we see if the Wii price cut helps significantly, and to see how much PS3s sales this week were elevated by Tales. If the PS3 is just near the levels it is going to sell in Japan for awhile then PS3 would definitely win. On the other hand if PS3 sells drop significantly, back into the

Depends on when Dragon Quest X gets released.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

PS3 sales will be down to ~20k in a few weeks, the 50k this week was in large part due to Tales of Vesperia. A Wii price cut along with Wii Fit+ next week should be pushing Wii sales north of 30k easily.

Boss, do you think WF+ will push Wii's HW? And just in Japan or worldwide?

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Almost certainly the Wii, price cut, Wii Fit plus, New Super Mario, will easily do it

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)
