Forums - Sales - Change in Sales Game of the Day (9/28) - Halo 3

Note: You might have seen them, but if not the "Sales of the Day" threads now how followup news articles. I'm really trying to make the threads/articles have a large community involvement, which is why I include the poll results, and my picks for best user comments.  Now I'm hoping that I can get you all to help me with other information. For ex. if you were to say a game had it's sales because of a bundle then, I would really appreciate it if you could supply a link to a credible source proving when the game was bundled.  Other information that would always be helpful, would be information on marketing budget for the game, the big (or lack of ) releases around a game, even videos that might highlight the advertising strategy for a game, etc.  Anybody who provides a link, and I use the information in the article, I will include their name and a link to their profile in a thank you section at the bottom of the article when it is released.

Thread Description: In this series of posts I'm picking a franchise and then looking at how the franchise is doing in sales this generation compared to last generation, and then asking people why they think that change in sales occurred.

Change in Sales Game of the Day

Article to be released 9/28

Halo 3

Title    Last Gen Sales % Change in Game Sales Between Generations % Change in Platform Size Between Generations
Halo Combat Evolved 6.43 58.01 32.07
Halo 2 8.43 20.52 32.07
Average 7.43 39.27 32.07
Halo 3 Sales 10.16

Description: Halo 3 recently became the first title on one of the HD platforms to cross the 10 million mark. The franchise began huge last generation on the original Xbox, but neither of the versions on that system really came close to the 10 million mark. So why has Halo 3 so easily outperformed its last generation counterparts? Was it the aggressive marketing campaign, or the fact that the 360 is a more popular system than the original Xbox, or something else? Vote in the poll in the second post, then give us your best argument in defense of your vote.

Update: Poll taken down as the follow up article has been posted. Thanks to everyone who participated in this thread!

i voted XD for the first option

Anybody else have any thoughts? I didn't specifically point it out in the first post, but if you compare the percentage Halo 3 increased over the average from last generation at 39%, that is comparable to the 32% increase of the 360 over the Xbox. So maybe Orca is onto something saying that the bigger install base is responsible? Obviously there are many other possible explanations as well.

I voted for the first option, but of course Halo 3 is still a standout among X360 shooters, so it would actually be a mix of options, in my opinion.

I voted for the first option but the other choices would have to have played a part too

Anybody else? The poll is doing pretty well with votes so far, but not getting many comments yet. Does anybody have any information on the marketing budget of the game?

Voted for the first option

Advertising/Promotion no doubt.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 > Modern Warfare 2

I voted number 2. Can't deny that Halo 3 is a quality game, unless you are a PS fanboy.
