Forums - Sales - I don't see the price cut being enough for Sony

Fisrt off, it is probably where it should have been to begin with if it was to be successful.  More importantly, Micro and/or Nintnedo can and will respond with cuts and incentives.  I think it is kinda of a lose lose for Sony.  They are shortly going to be the most expensive console again but if they didn't do it, the slow death would continue.  Cutting it even further may have helped but is not practical.  Too little, too late has been the PS3 and seems to continually be playing catch up and losing ground.

Its at least a start. What if they never announce the slim or the price cut. In my opinion, this is better than nothing.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

I think another big factor will be is that everyone's friends have xbox and people will buy xbox to play with their friends...

@toastboy
that is only in America

OT
I say this is a good move by sony to secure the European and other markets. Definetly a step in the right direction. This one move may not be enough to surge past microsoft, but I'm sure this won't be Sony's only move this gen. I think the real battle for second place will start when Sony and Microsoft's motion tech comes out. If one or both of those take off, it could make this generation a lot more interesting.

The numbers don't seem to agree.

you should go back to whatever anti-ps3 site you used to post on.

The facts remain that most consoles sell a large number of their units in the 200-300$ price range.

400$ is out of that range, yet has outsold the 360 in the same amount of time on the market. if ~27M consoles is not a majority of their sales, then we can imagine at least another 28M sold a this price if not more.

Ok and what about the other 36 million PS2 owners? They are going to get an XBOX to play with there ps2 friends?

Im about to lose it, im tired of threads downcasting what may happen to the PS3 after its price cut.

yeah leo- this is madness, definitely not sparta...madness

By next Fall the PS3 will have sold an additional 3 million units in Japan in comparison to the 360 selling an additional 500,000 there if it has some kind of miracle.

With the consoles at their old prices the 360 was only outselling the PS3 in Europe by 9,000 a week. With the new price cut for PS3 and GT coming as well as Final Fantasy Versus XIII as a PS3 exclusive Microsoft's fortunes in Others are going to be even worse in the Others territory than they were in much of 2008 until they had two drastic price cuts for the 360.

If they think it's an impressive feat to cut the price of the arcade to $100.00 to ensure they beat the PS3 in Others I guess all I can say is more power to them.

This is getting fun now. It's been a few hrs and people are trying to diminish this as a "lose lose" situation. Just wait for the coming weeks and let the numbers speak for themselves. If the 360 get's outsold for a few weeks or months so what.

Just enjoy this, everyone always says from week to week..."ohh the sales numbers are boring" Well it won't be boring anymore, let's all enjoy the race.
