A swedish news site wrote an article about the anticipated pricedrop and PS3 slim rumor, that is expected to be confirmed within a few hours time. But this isnt another rumored price cut or Slim post. What i found interesting with this article is that they write, with the source being the UK Telegraph, is that they say that 80% of all Playstation 2 consoles sold last gen in the UK was purchased after the pricecut. 

Numbers can tell lies if we dont know all variables that sum up the numbers. I know the numbers can be found on this site, but im runing out of time. Can anyone post the total amount of PS2 consoles sold in the UK?

The PS3 has also already had a number of pricecuts.

I believe the right saying is that 80% of PS2 SOLD HAPPENED WHEN IT BECAME $199

umm dude... after the first pricecut, PS3 had one 2 yrs ago already

Using that math, the ps3 will sell 115.8million consoles

It is true that 80% of all PS2 sales have come after it dropped to $199.


The deception with this fact is two fold.
1. It dropped to to that price point much earlier in the life than the PS3 is with this price drop.
2. Sales rates before and after the price cut were not very different (aside fro the initial spike).

One must consider that the ps2 didn't have much competition either- The ps3 is being challenged at every corner.

Cool. So if it gets a price cut tomorrow, the Wii should go on to sell 250 million units.
