Forums - Gaming Discussion - Developers HAVE Natal Kits, but no Sony Wand kits...

We've heard some some very posters on this board, as to how NATAL was vaporware, and would never be implemented by M$...especially not earlier than Sony's wand-thingy...

Sony Computer Entertainment and Microsoft both showed off new motion control at E3 2009 and both appear to have designs on launching those offerings in 2010. And some third party publishers already have Project Natal dev kits.

THQ's Brian Farrell tells G4's The Feed that his company already has Natal development tools. They've had them for four to six weeks, by his estimation. The same can't be said for development on Sony's PlayStation Eye powered motion control tech, which is apparently still in the third-party "discussion" stage.

Sony apparently did say to developers, via a recent dev community bulletin, that "hardware prototypes and support are in extremely limited supply," that it is "prioritizing allocation for those partners likely to be able to deliver a title that makes use of the distinctive features of this controller at its consumer launch." That launch is penciled in for Spring of 2010, a launch that may not include THQ.

On the Natal front, Farrell isn't quite yet ready to discuss what THQ has planned. He doesn't rule out motion controlled content target at core users, but says the camera tech "feels more casual to us at this point."

But apparently the wands are with devs already:

"Sony America’s Peter Dille has revealed that the format holder has already started churning out development kits for its motion-sensing ‘wand’ to third party developers, saying companies “couldn't be more excited" about the new tech.

"We're a little bit past the research phase," said Dille, during an interview with Gamespot. “We're having conversations with the third-party community. The dev kits have started to go out to the third parties as well. They're working on the tech. They couldn't be more excited about it."

Sony previewed the new peripheral during its E3 press conference on Tuesday, though it remains unknown as to when the device will hit retailers."

Evidently...they didn't think THQ counted as a 3rd party devveloper...and more importantly, it would seem that Natal ISN'T vaporware, and instead for track for release in 2010!

There's no way that this will get fair and balanced treatment here, but is is interesting to hear these comments from a 3rd party dev instead the usual Sony and MS shpeel. These comments put Project Natal in a more advanced light than Sony's motion tech, though. Forget opinions about who's tech was more ready for primetime and check the facts.

THQ will get theirs second to last, right before "how do you program for this" Valve.

Anyway looks like your thread title is wrong.  At least ONE dev has Natal kits but no Sony kits.

Bring it on MS and Sony, let's see what comes of your new peripherals.

THQ have Natal kit but not the Sony one

you don't know for others developpers

about Natal, no price, no release date, no games
and guess what ?
the same go for the Sony wand outside the supposed 2010 release date ...

You got all this from, "feels more casual to us at this point."?

If you're going to use "supposed" try narrowing it to what Sony said.

well, I mean, they can still delay it ...

I was just pointing out that the title thread is missleading and the overall thread ... useless
