Forums - Nintendo - Dark Cronicles planned just after UC1 was finished.

I asked on Capcom-Unity, and Sven said it was planned that far. So the game was in at least some form of development since nov 2007.

Yep, this game was planned before Overkill was even announced (which was in aug 2008), and when all the Wii had in terms of rail shooters was Ghost Squad, HotD 2 & 3, and UC1 (unless there's another I forgot).

This only came out in a saturated market because of timing, not because of some deliberate diss to Wii owners.

Also, given how far back UC1 came out, that's well over a year to work on it, and it's still only 35% complete. That says they are making an effort with this.

planning =/= development.

Planning = planning.  I'm sure that Kojima was planning MGS5 when MGS4 came out, but that's not called development.

The fact of the matter is that Capcom treats Wii owners like second-rate citizens.  The same way the PS3 and 360 have tons of First Person shooters, The Wii does, and will have tons of On-Rails shooters.  They always sell so well, I don't see any reason why Capcom would give Wii owners anything different (Save for MH3).  I expect Capcom's efforts on the Wii to consist of ports/remakes/and on-rails shooters.

I'm sure DC will be okay, like RE:UC was, but let's call a spade a spade...  Didn't Capcom talk about how much 'effort' they were putting into DR: CtyD?  And yes, that turned out playable, but Capcom promising effort, should mean little - nothing to Wii owners (again, MH3 aside).

"planning =/= development."

Still means they were working on it in some form for over a year.

That seems like you think they are dissing Wii owners more because they aren't saturating the genre you want.

And if they planned it for that long, it's still well before this was saturated.

You keep putting MH3 as the exception but wouldn't its existence prove your point as incorrect? The fact that it seems like to be a first-rate effort from Capcom proves that they are in fact willing to put a great amount of effort into making a wii game shine.

I don't think it's time to give up on Capcom yet. As of right now they only have Lost Planet 2, Monster Hunter 3, Dead Rising 2 and Darkside Chronicles under development so thats 2 wii games and 2 PS360 games that we know of.  There's still plenty of time in the generation for them to get their act together.

He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

No, I'm talking about how they will 'plan' a second installment of a light-gun game when the first one was supposed to be a 'test'.  Do you not recall RE: UC being a 'test' of the Wii fanbase?  So essentially, whether or not you 'passed' the 'test', they were making another on-rails shooter on the system.  So Capcom lied.  That's what I'm getting at.  You passed the 'test', and you proved there was a market for mature games, and did that with the hopes of more (main) Resident Evil content on the system, and about all they've done is give you Monster Hunter 3, (which really is only because it's the highest selling console in JP by a long shot, so I don't know if that's being 'given' to Wii owners moreso than Capcom wanting it to sell really well, and it doubles the HD base in JP, and most of the sales will be based in JP).

Anyway, yeah, you passed the 'test', and you get another on-rails shooter, but whether or not you passed the test, you were gonna get one anyway, since this was in planning pre-release.  Wow.  Class act that Capcom is.

I don't understand how Wii owners can constantly defend Capcom when they're treated like second-class citizens.  They lie to you, make you buy their games, and still give you crap... lol.

 Don't forget Spyborgs.

"No, I'm talking about how they will 'plan' a second installment of a light-gun game when the first one was supposed to be a 'test'."

They didn't say the entire series would be scrapped if it was a hit. That would have been if it wasn't a hit.

Or do you think this is in leiu of any futher RE games? Capcom hasn't stated such. You all just appear to be assuming it.

Ahh yes Spyborgs too. Word on the street is that since the revamp the game is looking great.

I really don't see what the big deal is. Its somewhat of a disappointment, but it'll still be a good game (UC was), and Capcom does have other, more original efforts on the Wii

If you're a big enough RE fan, you'll have a 360 or PS3 for RE5, and you'll pick up DC and UC for the fan-service.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I agree with DMeisterJ. Welcome back!

You know Capcom have much more than that right?  Bionic Commando (PS360), a new Monster Hunter (PSP), Spyborgs (?), Dark Void (PS360), I believe some PSN/XBLA game also.

UC was not a test to see if Wii owners will buy 'core' games, it was a test to see if they would buy any cheap game with a big IP slapped on.  Same as other devs, they use IPs that are liked on the HD consoles to advertise some cheap game for the Wii, hoping people will cry "Yay Soul Calibur, Castlevania, Resident Evil, Dead Space!" and not care that the games share a name only.

People didn't like those IPs/games on other consoles because of the name, they liked them for gameplay.

I forgot Bionic Commando and Spyborgs.

Dark Void is being made by Airtight games. The new MH game is still a rumor at this point.

The point still holds. Its an even disrubution of wii to PS360 games. And there is still plenty of time for Capcom to do better.
