Forums - Nintendo - S-E Boss called the wii a toy (Kotaku)

http://kotaku.com/345304/square-enix-boss-explains-why-he-called-the-wii-a-toy

Yoichi Wada, at left and best known for his ability to stand near fantastic suits of armor, certainly has his own opinions about the Wii and PlayStation 3, the two contenders for console champ in the nation of Japan. He was recently quoted as saying the Wii is a "toy," a negative connotation for some, but for the adult-toddlers at Kotaku, it's still something to covet. He didn't necessarily mean it in a bad way, Wada says, merely that the interpretation was "coarse."

He explains, "Nintendo seems to place a great emphasis on Wii Sports and Fit rather than Zelda, a role-playing game. In my opinion, if they expose the functions in this way, they are making the Wii look like a toy." Don't worry, Nintendo fans, he has similarly tough love for the PS3 and Sony's inability to market it to a broader base. The man also thinks the PS3's price is "quite low as it is," so we're not sure what to think.

Still, I think what Wada is trying to say is that the challenges of appealing to consumers now is harder than it's ever been, that companies should take note to appeal to wider demographics. Or maybe he's just saying everyone should buy more Dragon Quest remakes.

Hard to tell.

This is for Soriku especially. He didn't believe my comment in the S-E news section.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Recently? Didn't this happen like a year ago?

But yes; Square-Enix has had ample time to prove that as things stand right now, they do not take the Wii seriously.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

This man is confusing haha.

The Wii a toy confirmed,

The article is dated Jan 15, 2008. I don't know the exact time the comments were made.

Why are you posting 6 month old news? Locking.

This was when Wada wanted Nintendo to ensure him that rpgs could sell well.He commented that Nintendo didn't focus on stuff like Zelda in their ads(he called Zelda an rpg).

SE wanted the Wii to fail during the holiday season. After it didn't Wada couldn't shut up about how Sony and Nintendo were confusing him and kept flip-flopping on whether he liked them or not(Do a search and see the number of bullshit statements with PS3 and Wii from Nov07 to Jan08).

Incidentally Crystal Tools was ported over and anyone with half a brain would have realized that he wanted to bring FFXIII over to Wii because he was worried about the PS3.If anyone thinks that SE would waste time and effort porting that engine for FF:CC or believe "it was multi-platform all along" as SE later claimed(lie) needs to have their head checked.

However it seems that SE thought too highly of themselves and probably wanted Nintendo to moneyhat them.Iwata said no.I am 99.9% sure of this.

Then the "Wii is a toy"statement came out and was followed by another statement where he flipped again and he had to explain what he meant by calling the Wii a toy.

Wada is a fucking asshole who can't think before he opens his trap.Tools like him need to be stabbed in the face.
