Switch 2 vs Switch 1 Sales Comparison in Japan - February 2026 

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in Japan and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the normal holiday periods and the Japanese Golden Week holiday for the two consoles do not lineup.

Switch 2 Vs. Switch 1 Japan:

Gap change in latest month: 93,139 - Switch 1

Total Lead: 2,300,727 - Switch 2

Switch 2 Total Sales: 4,701,776

Switch 1 Total Sales: 2,401,049

February 2026 is the 9th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in Japan. During the latest month, the Switch 1 has outsold the Switch 2 by 0.09 million units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is ahead of the Switch 1 by 2.30 million units.

The 9th month for the Switch 2 is February 2026, while for the Switch 1 it is November 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 4.470million units, while the Switch 1 sold 2.40 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 36.66 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 31.96 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - February 2026

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Japan:

Gap change in latest month: 5,541 - PS4

Gap change over last 12 months: 641,028 - PS4

Total Lead: 865,925 - PS4

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 7,423,012

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 8,288,937

February 2026 is the 64th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 5,541 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.64 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 0.87 million units.

The 64th month for the PS5 in Japan is February 2026, while for the PS4 it is May 2019. The PS5 has sold 7.42 million units, while the PS4 sold 8.29 million units during the same timeframe.

The PS4 crossed 8.5 million in month 68, 9 million in month 72, and 9.5 million in month 84. The PS4 sold 9.68 million units lifetime. The PS5 is currently 2.26 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in the US and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

Switch 2 Vs. Switch 1 US:

February 2026 is the 9th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in the US. During the latest month, the Switch 1 has outsold the Switch 2 by 0.59 million units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is ahead of the Switch 1 by 1.42 million units.

The 9th month for the Switch 2 is February 2026, while for the Switch 1 it is November 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 4.85 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 3.43 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 48.82 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 43.97 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in the US - February 2026

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 US:

Gap change in latest month: 12,057 - PS5

Gap change over last 12 months: 1,123,695 - PS4

Total Lead: 401,322 - PS5

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 29,113,477

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 28,712,155

February 2026 is the 64th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 4 by 12,057 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 1.12 million units. The PS5 is currently ahead of the PS4 by 0.40 million units.

The PS5 has sold 29.11 million units in 64 months, while the PS4 sold 28.71 million units. Month 64 for the PS5 is February 2026 and for the PS4 is February 2019.

The PS4 crossed 30 million in month 71, 32 million in month 74, and 34 million in month 86. The PS4 sold 34.93 million units lifetime in the US. The PS5 is 5.82 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in the US.

Switch 2 vs Switch 1 Sales Comparison in Europe - February 2026

This monthly series compares the aligned Europe sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in Europe and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

Switch 2 Vs. Switch 1 Europe:

February 2026 is the 9th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in Europe. During the latest month, the Switch 1 has outsold the Switch 2 by 167,632 units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is ahead of the Switch 1 by 1.67 million units.

The 9th month for the Switch 2 is February 2026, while for the Switch 1 it is November 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 3.94 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 2,27 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 39.71 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 35.77 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

Switch vs DS Sales Comparison - February 2026 (Final Update) 

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in November 2004 in North America, December 2004 in Japan, and March 2005 in Europe, while the Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

Switch Vs. DS Global:

Gap change in latest month: 150,151 - Switch

Gap change over last 12 months: 2,212,008 - Switch

Total Lead: 303,611 - Switch

Switch Total Sales: 154,160,148

DS Total Sales: 153,856,537

February 2026 is the 108th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Switch by 0.15 million units when compared to the DS during the same timeframe.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 2.21 million units. The Switch is ahead of the DS by 0.30 million units.

The 108th month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is February 2026, while for the DS it is October 2013. The Switch has sold 154.16 million units, while the DS sold 153.86 million units during the same timeframe.

This month the Nintendo Switch has outsold the lifetime sales of the Nintendo DS. The Switch’s 154.16 million units sold is above the 154.02 million units the DS sold lifetime.

I'll wait to see what Nintendo's forecast for the next fiscal year is for the Switch. But if it is high enough you might see a Switch vs PS2 sales comparison. It will be a little different as the PS2 was before VGChartz did estimates, so will be compared to lifetime PS2 sales.

The 9th month for the Switch 2 is February 2026, while for the Switch 1 it is November 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 17.16 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 8.84 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 154.16 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 137.00 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 and the PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

The 9th month for the Switch 2 is February 2026, while for the PS5 it is July 2021. The Switch 2 has sold 17.16 million units, while the PS5 sold 10.77 million units during the same timeframe.

The PlayStation 5 sold 91.04 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 73.88 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS5.
