Forums - Sales - PS5 sales outpace those of the Switch 2 in Spain. Third-party games on the Switch 2 are not selling well.

Around the Network

There are hardly any physical third party games on Switch 2, so it's no surprise that they are underperforming on a console where physical versions are greatly prefered. Likewise, Cyberpunk 2077 doing well doesn't come as a surprise.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

PS5 has 10 times or more the install base of Switch 2 in Spain, so Chronos selling around 10 times more on PS5 than on Switch 2 just seems to match the install base difference.

More noteworthy that PS5 is outselling Switch 2 currently in Spain. But it seems Switch 2 sales are better in the UK, France and Germany given that the weekly software charts shows DK Bananza continuing to sell well every week in those markets.

So either demand is lower in Spain or Nintendo is sending more Switch 2 units to France, Germany and the UK.

it sounds like the PS5 console is also outselling the Switch 2 console as well. That is unxpected (at least to me) so soon after the Switch 2 launch. Does anyone think this may suggest that the sales were really front loaded?

Something tells me it’s a supply-side issue, not demand.

It's not unusual for an older console to outsell a brandnew console. In 2017 the PS4 outsold Switch 1 for most of the year despite Switch 1 going at a pace that eventually allowed it to set a new record for the best first twelve months in video game history. Globally, Switch 2 is on pace to beat Switch 1's record.

I passed in front of a Game store yesterday and they had sticked flyers on the storefront letting people know that they had Switch 2s. So yeah, lack of supply could be the reason for it.

As for the game sales, I haven't heard the podcast (and I won't), so it's hard to know if they talk about physical sales only and where did they get the data from, but it's a bit early to gauge the situation. After all, it's not like Star Wars Outlaws sold great on PS5/XsX either.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Both Sony and Nintendo are projecting the same 15M console sales this FY, that logically means that Switch 2 will outsell PS5 in some markets, while PS5 will outsell Switch 2 in other markets. Even if Nintendo outdo their 15M forecast, most of those extra sales will likely come from the US and Japan and not Europe (Where Playstation is dominant).
