Switch 2 Best-Seller as Sales Top 7M - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for July 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console worldwide with 1,594,817 units sold for July 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch 2 has sold 7.04 million units in two months.

The PlayStation 5 was the second best-selling console with an estimated 787,722 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 78.22 million units. The Nintendo Switch 1 was the third best-selling console with an estimated 251,728 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 151.35 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in fourth place with 132,148 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 33.40 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the second month for Switch 1 in 2017 are up by 0.84 million units, as the Switch 1 sold 750,043 units in its second month worldwide in April 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are down by over 41,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 225,000 units. PS4 sold 828,752 units for the month of July 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 356,804 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 360,934 (-31.4%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 269,622 units (-67.1%) and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by 433,954 units (-63.3%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch 2 sales are down by nearly 3.85 million units, PlayStation 5 sales are down by over 225,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by nearly 13,000 units, and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by over 71,000.

2025 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 7.04 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 6.19 million units, the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 2.73 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 1.41 million units.

Switch 2 Best-Seller as Sales Near 2.5M - Americas Hardware Estimates for July 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in the Americas (USA, Canada, & Latin America) with 544,737 units sold for July 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch 2 has sold 2.49 million units in two months.

The PlayStation 5 was the second best-selling console with an estimated 236,297 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 31.39 million units. The Nintendo Switch was the third best-selling console with an estimated 84,072 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 57.12 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in fourth place with 82,728 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 20.34 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the second month for Switch 1 in 2017 are up by over 231,000 units as the Switch 1 sold 313,277 units in its second month in the Americas in April 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are down by nearly 7,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by over 139,000 units. PS4 sold 243,094 units for the month of July 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 221,886 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 227,193 (-49.0%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 202,906 units (-71.0%) and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by 117,191 units (-58.2%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch 2 sales are down by nearly 1.40 million units, PlayStation 5 sales are down by nearly 114,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by less than 1,000 units, and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by nearly 33,000 units.

2025 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 2.49 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 2.25 million units, the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.94 million units, and the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 0.87 million units.

NS2 Remains Best-Seller as Sales Top 1.5M - Europe Hardware Estimates for July 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in Europe with 336,845 units sold for July 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch 2 has sold 1.53 million units in two months.

The PlayStation 5 was the second best-selling console with an estimated 240,178 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 26.79 million units. The Nintendo Switch 1 was the third best-selling console with an estimated 66,018 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 39.02 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in fourth place with 35,127 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 8.54 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the second month for Switch 1 in 2017 are up by 0.14 million units as the Switch 1 sold 0.20 million units in its second month in Europe in April 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are down by nearly 98,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 44,000 units. PS4 sold 337,848 units for the month of July 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 79,025 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 30,961 (-11.4%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 35,436 units (-50.2%) and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by 98,837 units (-60.0%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Switch 2 sales are down by over 853,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales are down by nearly 131,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by nearly 9,000 units, and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by less than 1,000.

2025 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 2.06 million units, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 1.53 million units, the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 0.59 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.31 million units.

Switch 2 Dominates in 2nd Month - Japan Hardware Estimates for July 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in Japan with 379,462 units sold for July 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The Nintendo Switch 2 has now sold an estimated 1.70 million units lifetime in Japan.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold an estimated 58,473 units to bring its lifetime sales to 35.92 million units. The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 27,519 units to bring its lifetime sales to 6.95 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 940 units to bring their lifetime sales to 0.68 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the second month for Switch 1 in 2017 are up by 0.17 million units as the Switch 1 sold 0.21 million units in Japan in April 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are down by nearly 47,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by over 300 units. PS4 sold 74,127 units for the month of July 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 1,281 units.

Nintendo Switch 1 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 178,932 units (-75.4%). PlayStation 5 sales are down by 91,679 (-76.9%) and Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 14,608 units (-94.0%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch 2 sales are down by over 937,000 units, Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by over 17,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales are down by over 29,000 units, and Xbox Series X|S sales are down by less than 1,000 units.

2025 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold an estimated 1.70 million units, the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 0.86 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold 0.48 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.02 million units.

Switch 2 had a fantastic 2nd month and 7m that fast and already overtaking the PS5 for this year are not things I expected at all. The PS5 had a big decline YoY and Xbox Series a gigantic one but a lot of that is due to College Football 25 significantly boosting sales in the US last year with it being the first entry in a good while and CF26 is just another entry so nothing special.

As a result the sales of the PS5 this month are completely fine not being far behind the equivalent month for the PS4 but 67% down YoY on the other hand is still insane to see with it being a bit bigger than the Switch 1's decline. My guess is this is the last time it'll have a bigger decline than the Switch 1 but with the way the Xbox Series is going you can never know for sure. Also while it was fine this month the PS5 will take a hit in the US over the next couple months so things won't be great for it the rest of this year.
