Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Switch 2 Physical Game List

Below is a list of "physical" games I could find on pre-order in Australia from a physical walk in shop.

I made the list to hopefully help others who are physical game collectors like me and shun the poor practices of some developers cutting costs to release sub standard physical games

Please feel free to add anything I missed and I will update the OP post.

So far there is 6 games I won't be buying, and perhaps go a step further and not even support those developers on any platform.

As at 05/08/2025

2) Download size for FULL GAME is for anyone who plans to go digital only and not additional download requirement if you buy the physical full game (expect perhaps patches or expansions that come later).

Marvelous and CD Projekt Red are the true heroes here.

This is a good idea. It's tough to keep track of these things, especially because it seems to vary by region.

A few others:

  • Hitman World of Assassination Signature Edition - Game-Key Card
  • Madden 26 - Game-Key Card
  • No Sleep For Kaname Date - From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES - Game-Key Card, despite the misleading box art (thanks to @Zippy6 for pointing this out)
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S - Game-Key Card

I won't be picking up any Game-Key Cards, but I also won't be boycotting Sega, Capcom, and others. Honestly, that would punish me more than it would them.

I will, however, "reward" studios like CD Projekt Red for going the extra mile. In fact, I already pre-ordered Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition.

Seems like Elden Ring will be on a Game-Key Card. At least in Japan and other Asian territories. Im sure it will be in the rest of the world as well.

I mean Tetrix is 4GB, what is the bloody excuse there.

It may hurt me missing their games but they will not get a cent out of me for stupidity.

All of SEGA's games coming to the Switch 2 could have easily used an actual game card. I don't understand their decision to use a game key card instead.

Profit.

The keycard games are digital games, that req. a download, and you putting the cartridge into the switch2, to be able to play it.
So its like buying digital, but with more steps. If you lose the cartridge or its damaged, the digital game you have installed wont play.
This also means, every time you boot up the game, it checks if your cartridge is in there, and the code matches, what its supposed too at some online data base.

What happens 20 years from now, when Nintendo pulls down servers for say the Switch2 ?
You can't install games anymore, even if you own the gamekey cartridge.
Even if you have it installed, you likely won't be able to launch the games anymore either.
(unless they offer patches to every game, before shutting down servers, that remove it)

This seems like a bad thing for physical collectors.
For ease of use, that digital only guys like, it has the extra steps of req. you to carry around cartridges.
Like why arn't these just digital only games instead? Save the waste of plastic pollution.

I heard a rumor on the internet, that supposedly Nintendo make 8gb and 64gb cartridges.
And the 64gb ones are like ~8$.

So instead of spending like ~8$ on a cartridge that can hold the games, they give you a tiny gamekey code instead, to save like 8 bucks.
Just raise the price of the games by the cost of the cartridge, and give full games on physical buy. I think most would prefer that.

OR  if you want to sell the Switch 2 versions, at the same price as say xbox/playstation ones that use cheaper discs, then just eat the price difference. Surely that would be a better move, like.... how profit driven are these people, to not see that this will likely drastically effect sales of their games (physical buys).
