First off, the Devils 6th overall pick from the 2015 draft signing in the KHL... wowzers. Understand he hasn't projected as well as hoped, but this is still a bit shocking:

Justin Faulk could be on the verge of being traded to Anaheim:

Rumour is Ondrej Kase could be going the other way. Has had injury issues, but analytics people like him a lot. If he can stay healthy, Carolina could come out solidly on top:

Believe the Hurricanes have a deal in place with Anaheim for Faulk. Anaheim is not listed among his 15 preapproved teams, so it’s in Faulk’s hands now. Hurricanes have had a longstanding interest in Ondrej Kase, would be surprised if he isn’t involved.

Zack Werenski of the Columbus Blue Jackets signs a 3 year extension:

#CBJ have agreed to terms with RFA D Zach Werenski on a three-year, $15 million contract, as first reported by @KevinWeekes.

And this just came out now, but Nikolaj Ehlers of the Winnipeg Jets could be on the block as well. From Elliott Friedman (hockey insider who works for Sportsnet):

"I don't know if it's been that close. They definitely talked with Carolina. I had someone tell me they thought it was close. I've had other people tell me it wasn't that close. But obviously it was out there... I think the lesson with the Jets is that they've got a lot of moving parts."

NHL started on the 2nd. Not going to post every score (I'll update standings on Sunday though).

Flames lost their 10th STRAIGHT opener ffs. 4 wins in my lifetime on the first game of the season is really sad...

Alright, we are about a quarter of the way through the season. Some interesting headlines:

-Toronto Maple Laffs and their hilariously mediocre play. I hate the team and city with a passion, so I'll be sure to root for as much losing as possible from their point of view. Also the media meltdown is a site to behold on a daily basis, and no first round pick just makes it even more lol worthy.

-My Flames... back to purgatory. Mediocre 10-8-3 record and just not gelling at all. Gotta get shit fixed quick... and wtf happened to Johnny hockey?

-The Oilers don't suck... it is a site to behold. I'm really hoping the PDO gods strike them down, but I have a bad feeling their momentum will buoy them into the post-season.

-The Jets are not a total pile of dog shit... considering they lost their ENTRE right side of the defense, they have been very serviceable. Idk if they make the post-season, but they aren't totally awful.

-Canucks have been up and down. Middle of the road and could end up just making it or missing. Either way, they've taken huge steps this year.

-Senators... are not dead last? Honestly, they play hard and I'll give them that. 8-10 w/l record is nothing amazing, but they are far exceeding expectations. There could be some hope in the future after all (once Eugene sells the team lol)

-Habs... if you had told me two years ago this would arguably be Canada's best team that plays an uptempo style with lots of speed, I would have laughed my ass off. Me calling Bergy the worst GM in the league in the 2018 off-season aged very poorly.

I'll discuss some of the American teams tomorrow, but I'm sick af rn and I'm not feeling about to doing more rn.

My Blackhawks have been a lot of ups and downs (mostly downs) this year thus far. Really impressed with what Lehner has done in goal for us. Shocked that the Islanders didn't want to pay him for whatever reason. I could easily see him overtaking Crawford as our main goalie if his impressive results continue (and Crawford stumbles a bit more than he has been).

But yeah, it's hard to win when you're consistently getting outshot by 15-25 shots each game regardless of who is guarding the net.

Minnesota Wild getting the Winter Classic next year so time to book the trip
