Great month for PS4

Switch pretty solid (same as PS4 2nd April)

XBO up quite a bit YOY

3DS still chugging along

Good month all around

How much PS4 sold in its 2nd April?

Nintendo likes to be bullish to impress investors. they were off with wiiu for like 3 years in a row big time. there is no way nintendo is hitting 20 million imo.

I wouldn't say there's "no way", I think there is a chance if Pokémon Switch releases by late summer and rekindles the Switch hype in a big fashion and if Smash Bros Switch manages to carry that momentum through the holiday season. The Fortnite port (that I assume is in development/will be out by fall) should also help out a lot.

That said I'm not sure what else is on Nintendos table that can impact sales enough to reach 20m shipped this FY and with just these 3 highlights it might not be enough after all.

It seems that Smash Bros will be September release while Pokemon November release.

I know that, but frankly expected Labo will perform better that will have better effect. May, will definitely be stronger than April was. About bet, 4 months to go. ;)

PS4 had some huge system sellers, in 2015 like witcher 3 and batman, don't expect switch to do better in may, it's a weak month as well for console sales.

I was talking about Switch, comparing this May compared to this April.

Wow, ps4 > switch + xone sales? Beast mode on.

Short answer, it's not.

Longer one. I think PS4 is going to outdo Sony's prediction and sell ~17M-18M. They will have a permanent cut to $249 this year, and most likely another $199 week. And that's not even taking into account the games it has releasing. Still, with all that, the max it can hope for is 18M.

At this point, I think it's obvious, Nintendo expected Labo to help push HW, at least until the holidays and a few larger releases. That didn't pan out. So, my guess is they are either going to amend their goal, or they are going to have massive sales this holiday season, with probably a permanent cut to $249, as well. Still, even with all that, I still see them missing their goal. Probably matching Sony's 17M-18M.

Basically, Nintendo thought they had the next Wii, but it's not looking that way. It's definitely going to do well, but it's not exactly a phenomenon.

With the way ps4 is selling, and sony's low prediction, I don't think they plan on dropping the price.

Nah, they're going to. Like I said, I fully expect them to exceed their prediction by at least 1M. Still, the lower prediction is why I'm only expecting a $50 cut to $249. If they predicted to match last year's, then I would expect a $100 cut to $199. A $50 cut will help boost the bottom line, but it's not going to have a radical boost in sales, like a cut to $199 would. This will also mark the 2nd year anniversary of the Slim and $299 price, it's time to cut.

Are people really doubting fiscal year projections based on 1 month of sales?

Many people thought labo would provide a huge boost. Nintendo  is predicting 20 million and they are likely way behind ps4 in sell through numbers for 2018, yet sony is predicting 16 million.

Just for the record best April for PS4 before this month was 206K, so Switch/XB1 sales are not weak but PS4 sales in this month are very strong thanks to GoW.

So basicly same like Switch, for the record best April for PS4 before this month was 206K.

This is an amazing result for the first full month of my NPD predicting tool !

Tool result for april : 1) PS4 : 716.6 points/day (1.0) ; 2) NS : 359.3 points/day (0.50) ; 3) XBO : 242.8 points/day (0.34)
NPD Results : 1) PS4 : 326k (1.0) ; 2) NS : 171k (0.52) ; 3) XBO : 134k (0.41)

I was not expecting to be that close. Well, it may be pure luck well but this is an encouraging start.

FY starting in April, one month where PS4 had one best games ever and Switch didnt had strong release dont change much when there are 11 months left and among them Nintendo will most likly have at least two of its biggest IPs.
