[2] - FORUM THREADS
================================================================================================
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - > 2.1 - Thread Posting and Editing < - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ================================================================================================
When you scroll down to the bottom of a thread, you will see the option for you to leave a response. This is the Quick Reply, where you can easily type your thoughts and comments and post it to the thread by clicking [Post Quick Reply].
However, you can also click [Rich Text Reply], which will bring you to another screen, where you can make more elaborate posts. Here, you can embed pictures and videos, and have more formatting options for your post.
You can bold, italicize, underline, and strikethrough text. Change the text to headings, indent, bullet, and number among other things. After you finished your post, you can click [Preview] to see how your post looks before you click the [Submit] button.
Note that you can use simple html to change your text style, which will also work for Quick Reply:
By selecting [Styles], you can add a spoiler tag over your text. This can be for whole paragraphs or for specific words, like this. It is best to write up your post before adding the spoiler tag, or it will be difficult to type with the spoilers active.
To edit your completed post, simply scroll down to your post and click the [Edit] button, which will bring you back to the Rich Text Reply page. You can edit your post even if the thread is currently locked.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - > 2.1.1 - Quoting and Replies < - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ================================================================================================
You may sometimes notice that you have been quoted, as indicated with the Blue Speech Bubble. In order to quote any post from any user, simply click the [Quote] button. This will bring up the Rich Text Reply with that user's quote. After you submit your post, that user will be notified with the Blue Speech Bubble. Quote trees will automatically be limited to 2 posts, so with long discussions, you don't have to worry about really large quote trees
Alternatively, you can use the [Multi-Quote] function. Simply click this button to each post you want to reply to and you will be notified that your selected posts had been added to the queue. Finally, click the [Quote] button for the last message you want to reply to and this will bring up the Rich Text Reply with all the posts in one place. This is an easy way to notify many users at once and to prevent double posting or spamming. Note that the multi-quote function works across threads, meaning that the quote will be saved even if you open and go into another thread.
If you accidentally selected a wrong post when multi-quoting, click [Post in queue] to remove it from the list, and you will be notified as well

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - > 2.1.2 - Embedding Pictures and Videos < - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ================================================================================================
In Rich Text Reply, click the small tree icon in your toolbar. This will bring a separate window where you can paste your image url into the space indicated. Select [Insert] to add the picture in and you will be able to resize the image afterwards. Animated gifs will work as well.
There is also a drag-and-drop method to add images, where you drag an image from your desktop directly onto this page to insert the image. Note that there is a size limit and submitting threads with these images take longer to upload.
In order to embed videos, in Rich Text Reply, select the film icon. This will bring up a small window where you can paste your YouTube url. Here, you can edit the dimensions of the video, as you will be unable to after you insert the video. If everything is done properly, you can see a preview of your video. Finally, click [Insert] to add the video to your post.
Note:
- Be sure to keep the type as 'Flash'
- Shortened YouTube links will not work
- Other non-YouTube video links may not always work
================================================================================================
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - > 2.1.3 - Embedding Twitter Posts < - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ================================================================================================
In order to embed Twitter links on VGC, simply go to the Twitter post and click the drop-down arrow and select [Copy Link to Tweet]. Do not select the Embed Tweet option. After you have copied the link, simply paste that link directly on your post and after you submit your post, it will automatically be embedded.
Note that copying Twitter pages will not work, so copy links from individual Twitter posts.
================================================================================================
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - > 2.1.4 - Hyperlinking Text and Images < - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ================================================================================================
In order to add a URL or link to text or an image, first you need to select the text that you want to hyperlink in Rich Text Reply. Then, click the chain link and paste the URL in the 'Link URL' space. You can leave the other options as is and select [Insert]. The text you highlighted should turn blue if done correctly.
Another option that works in both Quick Reply and Rich Text Reply is the html coding method:
To un-link a URL, click the text or image, and click the broken chain link.
================================================================================================
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - > 2.1.5 - Tables < - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ================================================================================================
First, select the Table icon with the Pencil to bring up a pop-up window. Then, input how many columns and rows you want and select [Insert]. You can add or remove columns after the table has been created already. The table will automatically adjust to fit, so you don't have to worry about the dimensions.
After the table has been created, when you select on the table, more options will be available.
o Table row properties - This brings up a separate window for advanced table settings, allowing you to change style, alignment, etc.
o Table cell properties - This brings up a separate window for advanced settings for one cell
o Insert row before - Insert a row above the selected row
o Insert row after - Insert a row below the selected row
o Delete row - Deletes the selected row
o Insert column before - Inserts a column to the left of the selected column
o Insert column after - Inserts a column to the right of the selected column
o Remove column - Deletes the selected column
o Split merged table cells - Split cells if they were previously merged
o Merge table cells - Merges two cells together

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - > 2.2 - Thread Creation < - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ================================================================================================
Go to the Hot Topics tab and to the right, you will see [New Topic]. By selecting this you will be brought to the Rich Text Reply page where you can create your own thread
First, you will need to select a Forum Category for your thread. For example, if you are making a thread about a Sony related game, then you can put your thread under the Sony Discussion.
Tagging Games allows you to feature a game at the top of your thread, though selecting a game is a bit finicky and does not always work properly.
All the tools from Rich Text Reply will be available for you here, so tips for forum posting also applies here. When you finish your thread, you can click [Preview] to check for any mistakes you may have made before clicking [Submit] to post the thread to the forum.
Locking and editing your thread:
You cannot lock your thread or move the Forum Category. You will need a moderator to change these.
If your thread is locked, it will not be visible to other users. Under My Topics, you will still be able to access and edit your thread (and other locked threads you posted in). Therefore, if you want to work on a big thread, you can reserve a few posts and ask a moderator to lock it for you until you have finished, where they can unlock it
To edit your first post, scroll down to the bottom and click [Edit], much like how you would edit any forum post. To edit your thread, you will need to scroll to the top of the OP and select [edit thread].
This will bring you to a new page:
Here you can change the thread title, poll and tagged games. For each field you change, you will need to select Update to save your changes.
Notes:
- Be sure to follow the Forum Rules for 3. Thread Creation
- You need at least 50 posts before you can make your own thread
================================================================================================
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - > 2.2.1 - Polls < - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ================================================================================================
If you want to add a poll to your thread, be sure to check the [Add a Poll] option before submitting your thread. After your poll has been submitted, you will be able to select a title and give options for your poll. If you would like to change your poll, select [edit thread] at the top right, and you can edit your poll, or make a completely new one.
Note that if you alter your poll, all previous responses will not be saved.
