Turn based, no doubt about it. Xenoblade's battle system is the only reason why I don't enjoy those games.

I  like turn based more, but it was cool seeing nintendo create a solid battle system that isn't used often

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

I'm surprised by how many people would be okay woth changing it to Blades formula

Really hope they dont change the battle system then.
I wish they hadnt with FF7 either.

That said I really do like the "mid-way" point that Xenoblade has, its the best of both worlds, without the action-rpg element ruining anything. I think more games should make use of that battle system, but theres something to be said about staying true to classics.

Just keep it how it was originally. It's silly to try and change the battle system for old games, people liked them originally in part because of that battle system.

That said I never actually played it originally so I'm not overly attached to it, but if they were to change it then;

Turn based - definite buy, decent chance of day 1 even
Action - Possible buy when it's bargain bin price depending on how well it is received
Xenoblade - Never buy nor play even if free

You're gonna have a hard time in most online rpgs.

I'm... absolutely fine with that. Singleplayer>>>>>online

What do you find particularly wrong with this kind of battle system, anyway?

I find auto attacks to be incredibly boring. I don`t particularly like action battle systems (unless it`s a musou game) either, but I`d much rather be pressing buttons to do the attacks than them just happening.

You do press buttons for attacks though, but I understand what you mean.

However, these games tend to give the player far more depth with skills and special attacks. It's like watching a fist fight, vs watching anime fight. There's a lot more visual bang for your buck in a Blade style rpg than your typical arpg.

Turn based rpgs usually start out boring but later on when you have more party members, the strategy really kicks in. No, it isn't as action packed but it's much more strategic than action.

I don't exactly agree with the 'solid battle system' part, but I've to give Monolith credit for trying something different and Nintendo for being willing to pay the bill for it. That's why I bought Xenoblade Chronicles X  after dropping the first one in less than 10 hours, even if I'll probably never play the game, I wanted to support them for trying and at the same time contribute with my grain of sand to the cause of bringing more JRPGs to Nintendo's consoles.

I agree with it being a solid battle system, but I think that's obvious at this point, lol.

Being more interesting when you`ve got a large diverse party isn`t exclusive to turn based rpgs. Something that certain publishers would do well to remember actually...

It's definitely not that I doubt you, but what would you say is a good example?
