So I just bought Smash U and don't have a gamecube controller yet, and i've never owned a Smash I just play it over my friend's house. So i'm not sure what the optimal button layout is for the gamepad. What do you guys use?

L - Shield
R - Grab
Tap to jump - Off
C Stick - Smash Attack
Everything else I left it as it is.

I'll try that and see how it feels.

Switch the L to Grab and R to Shield. I think ita more effective this way imo

You can't go wrong with this layout!
For me, everything default except, left trigger is grab and right trigger is shield

Same set-up as me though I mainly use the triggers so ZL is also shield and ZR is also grab.

I use X, but if you like Y better then use it!
