There are a lot of strong feelings about the New 3DS, both excited for it and enraged by it. I have a proposition that may be seen as a potential solution to this dilemma, and I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on it.
One of the main concerns of the New 3DS is that Nintendo (and other publishers) will phase out support for the old 3DS models and begin developing several titles exclusively for the New 3DS. I'll put those fears to rest right now, my suggestion (and I suspect reality will reflect this) would be for these exclusives to be extremely few and far between, and perhaps entirely ports of Wii or GameCube games. Basically, don't worry about those, I already know how everyone feels about that. Try to imagine that the New 3DS effectively receives zero exclusive retail support, for the purposes of the upcoming question.
What if the main focus of "exclusive" New 3DS software support is through the Virtual Console? NES, GameBoy, and GameBoy Color support on the 3DS VC has slowed to a crawl, but most of the important stuff is there. It's been suggested (or outright stated? I can't recall) before that the reason the 3DS does not support SNES and GBA Virtual Console games is because it doesn't have enough power to run them with the bells and whistles afforded to NES and GB/C VC games. The more powerful New 3DS may be able to get there.
I'm certainly not the first person to think of this, but I haven't seen anyone discussing it around here. So I ask: would you still be upset (or would you still be excited) if the exclusive software for the New 3DS was almost entirely comprised of SNES and/or GBA Virtual Console support?
