I said it wrong.  I know it can but it doesn't necessary need to.  It's already winning without it and Japan has become insignificant to really care for that market

Console are dead, games or not it won't get any better from this point in time. Even with FF/KH (2016/2017? lol)

The population is aging, and it looks really bad (extremely low birth-rate, lack of immigration policies, etc)
Sales tax we're raised in April, and there will be another one coming soon. Sales have gone down across all the market (not only games).

Japanese male who finish University always (90%+) get a lifetime job in which they get to work insane hours with little to no free time. So no time for console gaming after 22-23. Gaming, if any, is done on commutes/breaks (aka, handhelds/smartphones).
And those who don't go to Uni usually have to live with low wages, making them unable to buy pricey game consoles(unless staying at their parents house).

Females, well they buy the Nintendo stuff. Mostly handhelds. And more are applying at Universities now too.


PS4 will be lucky to even get to 4M LT in Japan. Same for Wii U. There's nothing saving them.
I don't even need to mention the Xbox1...

And that same fate will follow suit in the West, just wait and see. 90M PS4? not a chance. 25M XBOX1/Wii U nope...

Just thought I'd add some of my knowledge, since no one is analysing the social aspect of it.

A declining console Japanese market is whats really hurting the PS4. To be honest I don't think the Japanese market will even be relevant after this generation. Mobile has practically taken over Japan and I don't see Japanese publishers putting the effort and risk into making a big game.
