Forums - Sony Discussion - Vita design sucks compared to the PSP

Start/Select really sucks, but the other buttons are pretty good

This might seem the logical explanation, but that's not the reason, the Vita itself is also wider.

If you take the PSP and Vita and place them together where the screen matches each other, where the buttons are on the right and left side have the exact same area space.  The reason why the buttons are so small on the Vita is because they put the PS button, start and select, and the additional analog stick within that same space.

I added a picture to the topic post.

Thank's for the pic, your point seems more founded.

It is true that it exists more space between both screen and buttons, hope that a third Vita version can help with that.

On another random note, I'd definitely like to replay P3P on that sumptuous screen !!!

I don't have fat fingers. I can also press the start/select really easily. The rear touchpad is easily the worst when your fingers start to drift in and you end up doing something you don't want too.

I thought PSVita was pretty good when it came out to be honest. Little better than PSP and much better than any Nintendo DS to date.

However once you have Nvidia Shield in your hands nothing else compares in terms of comfort.

Except it's weight... more than double of the OLED-Vita, nearly 3 times the weight of the Vita 2000.

I hope, the Nvidia Shield 2 will be lighter.

People can say what they want, defend the Vita, but it doesn't change the fact that the buttons and analog sticks are way too close.  This isn't some Vita vs 3DS dick measuring contest, it's that the Vita is far worse of a controller than the PSP ever was.

Just one of the many times that this poor word is used incorrectly. This is not a fact. Just your opinion. I've been usiing my psvita every day (for several hours a day some times) and the controlls never bothered me. I've played several fighting games and I still like the controls as they are.

You can say what you want, attack the vita, but it won't change the fact that that's not a FACT

Start and select are horrid. I use the PS button instead to pause a game. Otherwise I got no beef with it.

Newest vitas have made the two larger, so thats fixed for you.

This post falls apart with the word sticks.  Plural.   that alone is why vita is superior.

I for one find the vita super uncomftorible and cramped. long peroid gaming on it is not a nice experince

WII U // PC // 3ds XL // VITA

I used to think that the Vita d-pad was overrated. But then I got the 3DS and it really made me appreciate the PS Vita's design. I could actually play UMVC3 on the Vita but I don't think I can play Street Fighter using the 3DS.

Yep this. I also had problems with accidently touching the back touchscreen in a couple of games (Jak 2&3) which meant accidently turning on dark jak, turbo, or the jetboard when I didnt want to. But the rest of the controls are fine and I didnt have a prblem with them. Also, while I havent played the psp much, the one single thing item the vita has that the psp doesnt and that really makes up for all the issues the OP mentioned is simply the second joystick. After playing Jak: the lost frontier I seriously dont know how people played their psp without issues.

That's odd, the vita fits perfectly in my hand and it's the most comfortable handheld I've ever used no matter how long I play on it. I though it was the same for everyone.
