This preety much confirms my suspicision about MGS ground zeroes. Its a paid demo of MGS V phantom pain with different story. I am going to wait for the complete edition.

MGS 5: Kojima Would Prefer To Release Ground Zeroes With Main Game

Hideo Kojima has said that MGS 5's prequel, Ground Zeroes, would ideally be released with the main game.

As you'll probably be aware, MGS 5: Ground Zeroes will be releasing before the main game, with Ground Zeroes intended to act as a prequel for MGS 5.

Kojima has now said that, ideally, it would have been better if MGS 5: Ground Zeroes was not released as a separate game.

"It would’ve actually been better to release it all at once, but by the way things are going, it appears likely that Phantom Pain will be coming out around the time the PlayStation 4 becomes more spread out," said Kojima in an interview with Famitsu, translated by Siliconera.

"That means we would’ve had to make people wait a while longer," Kojima explained.

Kojima also compared MGS 5: Ground Zeroes to the opening scenes of a Hollywood movie.

"If I were to put it in Hollywood movie terms, the prologue, that is Ground Zeroes, would be similar to the first 10-15 minutes that are meant to 'captivate',” said Kojima.

"At first, something will happen, then the title will appear like 'bam!' and then nine years later, a big event will be the start MGS 5. That’s how the story will be connected."

MGS 5: Ground Zeroes is due to release in Spring 2014 as a downloadable title for PS4 and Xbox One and as both a downloadable and retail title for Xbox 360 and PS3.

"We want to offer it for as cheap as possible, so at first we thought about making it as a download only; however, after thinking about people around the world, and how some places don’t have the best connectivity, we’re preparing a physical version," said Kojima.

Whether this means that MGS 5: Ground Zeroes will get a boxed release on PS4 and Xbox One or whether Kojima is simply referring to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions isn't yet clear.

This is the only thing about this generation. The mobile microtransactions etc are affecting the console market.

Maybe Microsofts DRM wasn't so bad. We never let them really show us how it would work. But devs and publishers are turning to microtransactions and paid demos instead. Its a shame. Microsofts share feature etc may have been a much better propostion than buying x car for y game through microtransactions.

Kresnik would prefer that too, and won't be buying Ground Zeroes until Phantom Pain comes out as a result. He'll probably pick it up second hand as well.

I will probably get the sealed complete version at $40 a few years later of actual release.

What is this..Why would he say that..Now my hype gauge is at 5,25% (from 99.2315%).

This monkey has a backlog of PS3 games to keep him occupied, so waiting for PP would not be a problem. I'm not shelling out elephant dollars for a demo just because "MGS" is on the box - even if it is my favorite series.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Only way to fight against it is to not purchase it. I love Metal Gear, but there's no chance in hell i'm paying $30 for a glorified demo. I'll wait till the inevitable compilation of the two games.

Remember MGS2? The introduction part with Snake on the Tanker?

This is exactly what MGS:GZ is and should be.

Because unless it's a 4/5 hours prequel, there's no way I'll get it.

I'd rather have paid demos that are optional than Microsoft's old DRM policies.  Also Microsotransactions would probably be there regardless.

Rule of thumb with most games these days is wait for GOTY/Complete edition unless you are the biggest fan or have nothing else to play. Things like...

  • Preorder dlc and store specific dlc
  • Day 1 dlc and on disc dlc to be unlocked later
  • Season passes months before any dlc actually hits or is known what it is going to be
  • Broken games at launch and multiple impending patches.
Pay the least at the end and get the full game unless you trust the developer or can look past all this. Oh yes, microtransions that monetize your time. Microsoft's drm would have made it worse and not solved this. Just like steam you are stuck with a game that doesn't work half the time but hey atleast on there you pay like $5-$10 for full AAA game.
