  • Both 1080p
  • Both 30fps with drops to 20fps... the framerate drop is a bug to be fixed in a patch.
  • Both uses the same assets and textures
  • PS4 "makes use of a bokeh depth-of-field effect to distinguish the foreground from a backdrop, noticed mainly during pre-race camera angles. It's a pleasant effect that recreates the results of real-life photograpy when a camera's aperture is reduced, causing distant lights to appear as enlarged luminous specs - a look that's entirely absent on Xbox One."
  • Xbone uses SSAO while PS4 HBAO

That's it.

But one was said to look significantly better than the other one?

The one that runs on my console of choice looks better

they're practically identical.

I was kind of hoping these kind os comparisons would stop since we know that multi pkats will look better on the ps4 guess I was wrong

The ambient occlusion is better on PS4 but I don't think most people will note that... and the other effect listed in my resume that you can see the difference because the lack in Xbone version just happen in race transations... the effect isn't enable while racing.

So similar in most of time except the ambient occlusion.

Yeah, that's the reason I replied to the op. There is nothing of significance.

HBAO is quiet more taxing than SSAO so that's an obvious power difference right there off the bat I guess.

I noticed this in the comparrison vids, and as they pointed out I took to this effect more. Nothing major though, but still welcomed.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Saw this in the comment section ...

"Overall those 2 version are indeed really close and I wouldn't mind playing the X1 instead of the PS4.

But it is technically a win for PS4:

- Better refined expensive HBAO (Ambient occlusing)
- More details in the background (more trees mainly, important weird omission from DF)
- Higher res background looks sharper
- Slightly better framerate (low PS4/24fps and X1/22fps)

Thinking that if the developer didn't tell DF that PS4 had better HBAO, Digital Foundry would have almost told us X1 was the winner, and also in the update DF forgot to tell us HBAO is better than AO...

Anyway thank you for your always interesting face-offs. Hopefully those errors and omission won't prevent you or traumatize you in the continuation of your excellent otherwise work. "
