Ive never had the chance to play any Atelier games. The story is unique to every game like FF or it carries on between games?

Each one tells a separate story but it's the same universe and sometimes characters overlap.  You can generally play out of order, but I've been told it makes it more enjoyable if you understand some references and cameos.

For what it's worth I'm waiting for Rorona to get localized so I can play all 3 in order. The other 2 in the trilogy are on PSN already.

They made the characters look more closer to their original art design rather than skimp on the details . this just shows you how much GUST evolved in a very short time and now they're upping their budget a bit, they deserve it, Atelier is one of the best underrated games, its so calm and relaxing to play, in the same vain of Animal Crossing.

These games are comfy as hell. I was actually halfway through Rorona so I think I might hold off until the localisation.

The Atelier series has many games, but the recent trilogy is the Arland Trilogy.  The order is Atelier Rorona, then Atelier Totori, then Atelier Meruru.  Totori and Meruru have already been localized and are on NA PSN, I'm not sure about EU though.  I'd guess most likely.
