Forums - Gaming Discussion - Suggest me some Retro games

Tagged games:

I love me some Retro games. pretty much anything pre-dreamcast. I've dived into them just last year with mostly N64 and SNES games but im loving every bit of it. I probably play them more often then modern games.

So please, suggest me any games at all! theres no limit, as long as the games are good in your eyes, and was released before Generation-6 of Video games. you can even share some of your fondest memories of gaming with your NES/SNES/Genesis/Playstation etc.

Handhelds, cult classics, any genre, all welcome! torture my wallet all you want xD

Can we assume you've played every major first party game on those two (Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Paper Mario, Mario Party, Mario Kart, Kirby, Starfox, DKC, Earthbound)?

If not, you need to start with those.

What genres? Earthbound just came out on the Wii U VC and it's absolutely stellar.
I'm currently playing the original Zelda and Megaman II.
Super Metroid is Prime.

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

Not sure what you have and have not played but here goes.

Earthbound, which is now on Virtual Console (Wii U, not sure about Wii)
Super Metroid
Metroid
Chrono Trigger. Definitely get this if you haven't played it. It's available on SNES, DS, VC, even iOS and Android.
Mega Man 2 - One of my favorite Mega Man games, even though I'm not that big of a fan.
Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario World
Donkey Kong Country
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Mario 64
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. If you have not played this you owe it to yourself. It was a revolutionary game at it's time and some still consider it the best game ever.

I think that covers some of the must-have games and it will definitely get you started, unless you want to get into the early Final Fantasy games, but I'm not a big fan of that series so I won't recommend it.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Mostly anything Nintendo made on the SNES/N64.

yeah, maybe I should have narrowed it down a bit. but what I meant was any game that released on consoles pre Generation 6. seriously, all games as long as you think they are good games.
