Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo to Shut Down Select Wii Channels in June

Tagged games:

I used to use the news, weather and channels, but I haven't even turned my Wii on in a while.  Still, seems kinda early to be killing off their Wii for the WiiU.

Is this worse than the Microsoft turning off online for the Xbox?

Article:

Nintendo confirmed on its official website that select Wii channels will cease functioning beginning on June 28. The company will discontinue the Forecast Channel, News Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, Nintendo Channel, Check Mii Out Channel, and data exchanges between Wii friends on WiiConnect24 including Wii Message Board, Mii exchanges via Mii Channel. Exchanges of messages and game data for select titles will also no longer be available.

Nintendo stated that while the channels may still appear on players' menu screens, they will not work once selected. “Today's Accomplishments” on the Wii Message Board and the Wii Shop Channel are not affected.

Nintendo released the successor to the Wii console, the Wii U, in North America on November 18.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
