In a post to the PS Play Community blog, SCEJ president Hiroshi Kawano has apologized for recent stock shortages of the PS Vita at retailers around Japan. Apparently demand for the device, especially the Cosmic Red and Sapphire Blue color variations, after the price cut has been higher than Sony has the capacity to manufacture, resulting in shortages at numerous retailers. Kawano goes on to state that sufficient supply should be ready by the Golden Week holiday period (at the end of April and beginning of May), although whether this means stock will be ready by the launch of the discount Vita "Best" series games on the 25th is still unknown.
This news supports numerous reports of stock shortages at major retailers including Yodobashi, Joshin, Yamada, Amazon, Sofmap, Bic Camera, and even the official Sony Store.
Update: Now supported by Media Create! Media Create's weekly analysis mentions the ongoing Vita stock shortages for Red, Blue, and White models.
