Forums - Gaming Discussion - What happened to gaming forums?

When a forum is specifically designed to talk about video games and their sales you're are going to get comparisons between consoles. When a console does bad, we pounce on it like a lion pounces on it's prey and we tear it apart until we no longer can. (Or until it starts doing well.)

We are a vicious community. (But we do talk about games in general, a lot. You just seem to miss those threads.)

As soon as new software starts rolling in then we can start discussing how good/bad a game is.

But there's a slight drought going on, at times like these we talk sales and speculate.

(This is a sales site after all.)

Huh? Sim City and Tomb Raider just launched. Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3 launched last month. Gears of War Judgement and God of War Ascension are coming out in the next few weeks. In what way is that a drought?

Because those arte all multiplat.

We'll soon start seeing threads about GoW and how the metascore was wrong and whatnot.

And that really is the problem.  Nobody has made a legit Tomb Raider impressions thread (I'm getting it today).  --Just a couple of threads about the graphics on PC from CGi and Twesterm bitching about how much he sucks as a gamer.  If it were an exclusive, we'd be hearing about it all of the time.  The thing is, there's so much gaming content in such a small period of time that even I, the mighty d21lewis, can't hope to keep up with it all.  God of War, Gears of War, Luigi's Mansion, DMC, Tomb Raider, Anarchy Reigns, Metal Gear Rising, etc., etc., etc--but it seems that the biggest focus is still doom and gloom and console comparisons (not sales--meta scores, graphics, etc.).

The good stuff is out there but those threads seem like they get buried sometimes.

@Jazz2K

What you have described are what these forums have been since I started coming here. Console warriors, and rabid fanatics make up the overwhelming bulk of posters on these forums. Others are right though it doesn't mean that the conversation you seek isn't to be had here. Threads about specific games, intelligent discussions, or congenial conversations can be found. Just not by perusing the hot topics.

The reason those thread are hot is, because two or three console warriors are trying to out scream one another. Continually bumping those threads back up to the top. The first two or even three pages of the hot topic section are almost entirely about head butting. You can save yourself a lot of grief by going to specific forums, because good threads don't fall off the front page as quickly as they do in hot topics. A thread that would last more then a hour in the hot topics. Can last for days or weeks on the front pages of a number of forums.

Like others have said you don't really have a point. I have read a couple game related threads every day for the past two weeks. I even created one myself about a game that was coming out. It didn't last very long. I suspect, because you were only trolling through the hot topics. Rather then actually kicking over the stones that were the specific forums themselves.

third party games get pissed on on these forums, they are mostly mentioned when people want to bash on them

First, I simply cannot believe you think this is anything new. The PS2/GC/Xbox wars were especially bitter, and the flaming at the beginning of this generation was MUCH worse than it is now. That makes sense, of course, because those topics are mostly exhausted by this point, but it still means you're wrong. We're actually in a pretty peaceful period for the next few months. War is coming, however.

Second, as far as gaming discussion goes, have you not seen that massive Vita thread? You call out Vita in particular, which is interesting, because it's probably the one system where people do talk about every single game that gets released. In fact, I remember a thread not long ago complaining because Vita fans supposedly over-hype everything.

The majority of people on these forums are fine. The problem, as always, is that a few people rile up both sides. One antagonistic person can take over a thread and cause discord that wasn't there before. That's just part of internet forums, though, and always will be.

Well can't blame the Vita people, they only have so much to get hyped about.

Wii-U people will do the same if sales don't pick up.

The internet has become even more mainstream. As this happens the maturity level is bound to decrease. With faster computers and smartphones it takes almost zero effort to put your opinions online.

You obviously weren't on the Internet in the 90's. Everyone was calling everyone fags in every second post.

Also, you got a lot of "How r u?" and "lol wtf! Roftlamaoaoa."

Sounds like the good old Prodigy, AOL, and Compuserve days.

Nothing happened to gaming forums.

The fanboyism was there 6 years ago.

Maybe you're right. A lot of people who have nothing to talk about come in forums and just spread car all over because it's way easyier now than it was before. The number of gaming talk is still there, just the amout of parasite threads is more important now.

They "only have so much" yet the thread is one of the largest thread on this website. Clearly they have a lot to talk about, or they like to talk about nothing.

Pretty sure 10000 of those posts are either secret trolling  or replys to trolls.
