Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ubisoft Loves the Wii U but wishes it would sell more units

Tagged games:

When the Wii U launched in November 2012, a fair amount of units were sold. Over the next few weeks, however, sales dipped down to under 10,000 units per week which is a major issue. Ubisoft, Creator of Rayman, hasn't been satisfied with the Wii U's current sales. They stated that they love the Wii U and think it's a fantastic system, but they simply wish it would sell more units.

It's great that Ubisoft supports Nintendo's new Home Console 100% as they plan on releasing Watch Dogs for the system later this year. Once the system sells more units, more developers won't be afraid to release games on the Console.

Ubisoft upset many when they announced that Rayman Legends went from being an exclusive to a multi-platform game. It's believed that Ubisoft did this simply because the Wii U was still new and not everybody was able to experience what it was like. The budget for the game is fairly large so to return on their investment quicker, the game is going multi-platform. Once more Wii U consoles get sold, this means that there is a bigger audience which means more sales. Last week, the Wii U got outsold by the Playstation Vita. Of course, this was only in Japan and the numbers weren't very dramatic. Lack of new software for the Wii U is mainly to blame for such low sales. Nintendo launched the system with over 30 launch titles which is great, but most of these titles were ports. Nintendo fans don't want ports, they want more Mario, Zelda, Yoshi, Metroid and other Intellectual Properties that Nintendo owns.

Wii U sales will increase dramatically after the Summer when Wind Waker HD is released. Also, when Super Smash Bros. is released, people will most likely be ready to upgrade their systems. Of course, this won't happen easy. Even with the Wii U's upcoming increase in sales, the PS4 and Next Xbox will be released this year. With these 2 systems out, this could spell out even more trouble for Nintendo. In reality, Nintendo's Console will be the cheaper option and gamers will immediately go for a $349.99 console rather than something over $500.

Ubisoft has been pretty generous with games so far compared to other 3rd parties

well games sell systems also LOL.

However considering Ubisoft is still supporting the Wii U with game liek Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell and AC IV they must have faith the system will grow.

Well true that they seem to support it more than others, with the port of Watch Dogs, ZombiU, and Rayman legends and all.

Still kinda iffed about Rayman Legends though.

Yeah, everyone hates Ubi for the rayman debacle, and that sucked, but their support for the system is impeccable.

Ubi is my favorite of the big three publishers. Their games are better than EA's and Activisions, and they don't seem like total douchebags.

Ubisoft generally supports every new system at launch. If it takes off (like the Wii did) Ubisoft is in a great position to capitalize. If it doesn't, not much harm is done since Ubi generally doesn't make huge budget games for new hardware. Smart company.

Rayman Legends wouldn't have sold very well on Wii U had it launched last week as scheduled. Wii U's market is very, very weak right now and if I were Ubisoft I'd want my game to sell, not sit on retail shelves for six months collecting dust before it gets thrown into a bargain in.

Just saying... people can be pissed at Ubisoft all they want, but the finger ought to be pointed at Nintendo. The Wii U is currently selling at a rate below that of the GameCube, and no publisher in their right mind would choose to release an exclusive on it during the slowest period of the year when they have the chance to release it multi-platform with an addressable market of 160+ million consoles instead of just 2.6 million.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

That was my bad grammer. I knew it wasn't a port.
