When the Wii U launched in November 2012, a fair amount of units were sold. Over the next few weeks, however, sales dipped down to under 10,000 units per week which is a major issue. Ubisoft, Creator of Rayman, hasn't been satisfied with the Wii U's current sales. They stated that they love the Wii U and think it's a fantastic system, but they simply wish it would sell more units.
It's great that Ubisoft supports Nintendo's new Home Console 100% as they plan on releasing Watch Dogs for the system later this year. Once the system sells more units, more developers won't be afraid to release games on the Console.
Ubisoft upset many when they announced that Rayman Legends went from being an exclusive to a multi-platform game. It's believed that Ubisoft did this simply because the Wii U was still new and not everybody was able to experience what it was like. The budget for the game is fairly large so to return on their investment quicker, the game is going multi-platform. Once more Wii U consoles get sold, this means that there is a bigger audience which means more sales. Last week, the Wii U got outsold by the Playstation Vita. Of course, this was only in Japan and the numbers weren't very dramatic. Lack of new software for the Wii U is mainly to blame for such low sales. Nintendo launched the system with over 30 launch titles which is great, but most of these titles were ports. Nintendo fans don't want ports, they want more Mario, Zelda, Yoshi, Metroid and other Intellectual Properties that Nintendo owns.
Wii U sales will increase dramatically after the Summer when Wind Waker HD is released. Also, when Super Smash Bros. is released, people will most likely be ready to upgrade their systems. Of course, this won't happen easy. Even with the Wii U's upcoming increase in sales, the PS4 and Next Xbox will be released this year. With these 2 systems out, this could spell out even more trouble for Nintendo. In reality, Nintendo's Console will be the cheaper option and gamers will immediately go for a $349.99 console rather than something over $500.
