Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is Max Payne Dead?

Tagged games:

I was just playing Max Payne and am about halfway through. And as far as I can tell it is awesome.

Great graphics, Story, Setting and Vocie Acting. The Gameplay is allright but was done better in other Games. As I already said I love the game so far. And this made me think.

Take Two interactive bought the Max Payne franchise for 10 million Dollars in the year 2002. But the 3rd installment turned out to be a financial flop even tough it sold over 3 million copies. And Rockstar Vancouver got shut a few months after Max Payne 3s release. The long development time plus the 10 million thy paid Remedy must have made a huge budget. But if Rockstar would "optimize" the process of development and develop it in 3 years instead of 8-9 it could become very profitable again. Maybe Rockstar could try to reboot the whole franchise.

I thought this game would have made lots of money and I thought it did! I guess not.

I didn't like it that much, other than the graphics and Max's writing, but I agree. If the development was handled better (not initially insulting the original fanbase and then therefore spending as much time developing the game) it could have been good.

Fat bald Payne surely hurt consumer confidence and overall sales, but I think it did ok. It could eventually become a 2m seller on each 360 and PS3. I think there is potential in a sequel.

I think whoever worked at Rockstar Vancouver got moved to a different studio http://ir.take2games.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=86428&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1712961&highlight

Anyway I don't expect Max Payne to be back

i honestly loved the game, and where did it say it was a financial flop? im really hoping for a Max Payne 4. i been tracking its sales on this site for a while now, there OK i guess for a rockstar game, 2.67 million, i was hoping it would have sold more this holdiay, and see it being at 3 million at the end of next year.

I hated the gameplay for MP3. It was obviously another Rockstar game, along with the terrible shooting mechanics. I've never played a third person shooter, that didn't feel like a shooter. I was very disappointed with this game. I doubt that there will be a MP4 any time soon. This one almost never saw the light of day.

They should get Remedy to make another Max Payne. MP3 didn't really feel like a Max Payne 3 game, more like a 3rd person shooter with a pretty good storyline and Rockstar quality voice acting and production values.

I haven´t played the first Max Payne games, but this one was most definetly one of the best games of the year. Unfortunately there is was no new game+ to raise the replay value.
