In a CrazzyMan post, he wanted us to only discussing PS3 to PS2 sales, and told us to go make another thread to discuss other sales comparisons, so I decided I'd go ahead and put together a small (ie: LARGE) comparison of the 3 current-gen systems available on the market today.
The next few parts I will compare a little more than a year for each console, in each region, aligned from launch. This 5th part will compare 7th generation sales to 6th generation sales for each console, in NA, aligned from launch. Weekly sales, total sales, and brief comparisons will be given. Links will be given as well. For size purposes, no graphs will actually be shown.
Direct Weekly Sales Comparisons
In North America: This should be fun (the number of graphs will be off the charts! lol)
- For simplification, I’m only going to do a few comparisons (we need to be able to do 6 consoles or so on one graph)
360, PS3, Wii Total Sales from Launch (60 weeks)
360, PS3, Wii Weekly Sales from Launch (60 weeks)
PS2, PS3, Wii Total Sales from Launch (60 weeks)
PS2, PS3, Wii Weekly Sales from Launch (60 weeks)
GCN, PS3, 360 Total Sales from Launch (60 weeks)
GCN, PS3, 360 Weekly Sales from Launch (60 weeks)
Total Sales Comparison:
PS2 - 7.15 million
PS3 - 3.54 million
360 - 5.22 million
GameCube - 3.78
Wii - 8.71 million
Conclusions:
- Wii outpaces PS2
- 360 and PS3 start off similarly, but then 360 pulls ahead
- Both 360 and PS3 fall short of GCN first couple of months sales, but then 360 pulls ahead of it, while PS3 follows it closely
- I believe a price cut caused the small boost for the PS3 weekly sales (around week 34), but I am not sure
- Discuss other conclusions
