Forums - Nintendo - Why didn't Nintendo make more realistic, violent games for the Wii just to prove 3rd parties wrong?

Because....

Nintendo is stupid. 40 17.47%

The game would have been bad. 8 3.49%

The game would have flopp... 27 11.79%

Third parties still wouldn't care. 81 35.37%

It would damage the Nintendo name. 26 11.35%

Other 47 20.52%

A lot of people believe that 3rd parties ignored the Wii because 3rd parties didn't think their games would sell well on the Wii. And since, no 3rd party has the balls to take the risk, 3rd parties never tried. My question is: why hasn't Nintendo made any 3rd party-like 'core' games for the Wii? And by 'core' games, I don't mean games like Super Mario Galaxy or Zelda. I mean games similar to the ones that 3rd parties would make. I mean a game with realistic figures, violence, & some guns. Maybe a little blood too. Just to prove a point to 3rd parties.. Why hasn't Nintendo made a game similar to Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed, Gears of War, etc?

I'm not saying they should have made an entire series of these games, but just make a few to prove a point. And surely, these games would have sold well. After which, 3rd parties would have surely jumped on board. And who knows? Maybe Nintendo could have made the Grand Theft Auto better than the actual Grand Theft Auto. They could have devoted one team to making their 3rd-party type games, so I doubt it would require a lot of resources..

But the point is 3rd parties clearly weren't going to make the first move. So why didn't Nintendo make that Grand Theft Auto type games? Or that Call of Duty? Would this not have proved to 3rd parties that 'core' games sell on Nintendo consoles.

Ninty never made such gaemz, most of their IP dates back from the NES/SNES era, I think their latest core IP was Pikmin from the GC gen. Correct me if Im wrong tho

It would ruin their image a bit, I imagine

Nintendo has stated before that they have little experience of producing their own violent titles.

But but bu if Nintendo would have made a game like that AND it was of high quality, it would have been successful, right? Because these type of games can sell well on the Wii, riiighhht? And this would have proved a point to other 3rd parties and they would have joined in, rriiiiggghht???????

Surely, a huge gaming company like Nintendo could have gathered developers/studios to do the project, or they could have just ....learned how to? I'm sure it's worth the risk anyway.

Easier said then done, Nintendo has it culture and changing it could turn out to be a bit schizophrenic.

Nintendo likes to move with convidence. I would think it makes them uneasy on a personal level, more then it would be any money/investment issue.

To you & Stephan. It sounds like you're saying Nintendo doesn't want to do this because they don't want to tarnish their name. Huh? That's one of the reasons people say 3rd parties ignored the Wii.

Don't you think 3rd party support is a lot more important than feeling 'easy on a person level'?
