Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rumor: Dead Space developer canned a Jack the Ripper game?

Visceral Games artist "Joebot" has released concept pics (or so he claims) for an unannounced, cancelled Jack the Ripper game, titled simply "The Ripper". Looks like it would have been bloody good. Emphasis on the bloody.

According to Siliconera, players would have stepped into the shoes of the one and only Jack, tasked with ridding Victorian London of baldy vampires. Makes a refreshing change from gutting prostitutes, I guess.

The artworks show off vampires in various states of hair loss and facial degradation, right on down to the blackened bones. Joebot worked on the first Dead Space, moving onto new IP in 2008.

Take a look at the shots. Concept artworks are rarely unattractive, but these are especially memorable. Almost Thief-ish. Cheers, VG247.

Well, I've enjoyed the hell out of Dead Space for quite some time now so I have no doubts that this game would end up being awesome (well, aside from it being canned......) if this rumor is true. Let's hope that they resurrect this idea sometime in the future

Good decision. I would not be interested in a Jack Ripper setting.

I want Visceral to concentrate on their two fabulous series Dead Space and Dante's Inferno.

Lol Slime, you really are self absorbed!

Are they even still working on Dante's? That was a flop of a game, Ripper would have been a better option for them ...

Unfortunately that what happens when Producers don't want to take risks any more, things get canned.

They probably working on a FPS now

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

What do you mean I am self absorbed?

Yes, a sequel to Dante's Inferno is under development. Yay, because the first one ruled.

Like, you think your gaming needs should rise above good business decisions!

The story/setting of Dante's was truly amazing but the overall package was so naff, I can't see a sequel doing amazingly better can you?

Haha, good point.

About Dante's, did you play it? I've played it through twice and earned the Platinum Trophy for it. I totally agree that a sequel wouldn't be able to sell marginally better and I was very surprised to hear they're making a sequel. But very happily surprised.
