Forums - Sales Discussion - Can the Xbox 360 sustain sales in 2012 without a price cut?

Tagged games:

The Xbox 360 just had its best year in 2011(sales wise). I think we can all agree that the peak year was driven by the Modern Warfare 3 and Gears of War 3 bundles + the continued Kinect momentum and Slim redesign.

Can the Xbox 360 keep it up this year?
What will have to happen for Microsoft to cut the price? Are Kinect Star Wars, Halo 4 and Call of Duty bundles enough to spark sales?

No of course not, it'll get a price cut for sure this year though, don't see how they can't.

I guess there will be a pricecut, but it would still probably do fine without one. Dont think it will be able to do as good as last year, but im sure it will still do good even without a price cut. But, I think theres a high possibility that they will only cut the price of Kinect and Kinect bundle while not cutting price of the console itself. What do you think of that?

I think it will get a price cut...but only if MS feels its needed. The 360 is going to have slow sales during the slow periods of the year anyways, might as well get the profits instead of a few extra thousand units sold per week imo.

Well what have they done with the DSXL?

They will probably discontinue the DS as a whole soon, they pretty much killed it when they lowered the price of the 3DS.

NOP... they can´t... because there will be a growing demand on Portable consoles... and the New WiiU... a posible Price cut of PS3 (AGAIN! This will be a Anual Tradition soon) a Price cut a a bundle with halo 4 if it come this year would do numbers like this past year

I Would like to buy a Wii without any game bundle... Nintendo is Overpricing some of those bundles... like the New Wii (W/O retrocompatibility) with NSMB and OST for 150$? They are crazy! (more than Bob the Neighbor of Plant vs Zombies XD).. for the same I can get the old one with mario kart and cartwheel!!

Unless they price cut the DS xD!

Only 79$ or lower would do, and then I dont think it will be more profitable to them then growing the 3DS userbase. I may be wrong, but I guess we will have a discontinued annoucement this year. If not, then next year for sure. The logistic and manufacturing process will soon not be worth it. Particularly considering a DS buyer will still be a 3DS buyer. But anyway, we are damn derailing the thread right now lol.

Yeah I can see that happening unfortunately. Although would of been cool, it would of been the portable PS2.

It will be, in a way, there will surely be people who purchase a 3DS for the DS library. Surely they'll play the 3DS library too, but the DS library itself may be the main reason to purchase it ;).

I honestly dont know, I dont even see that thing being sold in any stores where I live lol

Looks like they discontinued it at least in my area.

Well as you can see on the charts it is still selling. Its the same price as the 3DS in most American stores.

wtf really? Why do people buy that when they can buy a 3DS....

Because handhelds and consoles are completely different things. I would take a 360 anyday over a 3DS let alone any handheld out there. Not too mention that the model he is talking about is the cheapest most useless 360 If you want a 360 with Kinect or a 360 with a good harddrive it's 50-100% more than a 3DS.

OT: As far as I'm concerned it's pretty much a garantee that the 360 will get a price cut.

@yojohn, lol, he was saying why does people purchase a DS when they can purchase a 3DS, read a couple post earlier ; ). Sorry its our fault for derailing the thread. That being said, I too would purchase a home console before a portable.
