Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Has anyone discovered how VR/BR is caculated? (Mario Kart)

Tagged games:

Just wondering, always a question in the back of my head on Mario Kart Wii, not knowing how exactly my Versus Record (i never really played battle) went up and down depending on my performance in a race. Today i came in 6th/8 on a race in Rainbow Road (quite cruel because i only fell off once and never recovered because all i got, despite being in 6th, was Bloopers), but still made a gain of 3 points. I'm wondering if its because i had a VR in the upper 1100s, and some of the people ahead of me had records of 3800 and 6300 (!) respectively

Does anyone know what the formula is exactly? I know it's based on your place in the race as well as the VR of the other competitors, but what's the exact calculus?

I don't believe Nintendo has released the exact method of point calculation.

All I know is, like you said, the amount you gain or lose depends on how many points you have relative to the other players. Even if you come in sixth, if the two people you beat are 1000 points higher you're probably going to have a net gain. However, if you lose to people of a lower level, you're going to take a big loss.

In your case, the people who beat you were thousands of points ahead of you. It's 'expected' for people of their level to beat someone that's at your level, and so they would have gained very few points for winning and you would have lost very few points for finishing behind them. The two people you beat were likely fairly high levels, as well, which would compensate for the loss incurred by you losing to five higher-levelled opponents.

Hope this helps :)

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I have never seen people lose points in a MK7 race. I even saw a player on 3.7k points once, he wasn't even that great and came in the bottom 4 several times.

I don't know the exact formula, but the gains you can make per race are far smaller than in Mario Kart Wii. Around 25-30 points seems to be the maximum, but likewise, you can't really lose a lot. You need to be pretty bad to go below 900 points (1,000 being the starting point).

Also, you can go into the five digits range, I've already seen someone with over 12,000 points. And yeah, I beat that guy a few times too (my record against him was 3-3, I think) which made him quit and look for another group. What a point whore. What makes it even more nuts is that this was three weeks ago.

You still haven't added me :'-(
