I actually took the time to read all you wrote but my answer is directly at your thread title:

no im not saying that PS3 will be over after that...hell no...the PS2 is 11 years old and still selling like crazy for its age...i think the same will happen with PS3 but now not like the gens before Sonys biggest force is the 1st party...and when the PS4 is out like 90% or even every 1st party company will develop for the PS4 thats what im saying or thinking...

well in America the ps2 launched on like 10/26/00 then the ps3 launched on like 11/14/06

so ps2 had a full 6 years with 1st party devs working on it and i believe the last big Sony 1st party game that released on it was in 2007(God Of War 2). That means 1st party devs fully shifted development from ps2 to ps3 in 2007 which would also mean that ps2 was fully 1st party supported for 7 years(a year after ps3 was released)

now ps3 just hit it's 5th year like 3 days ago and if Sony launched the PS4 in 2013(about a full 2 years from now) then that would mean that ps3 would have had 7 years of full 1st party dev time worked on it. Now if it is anything like the ps2 then that would mean that ps3 would get it's last big 1st party exclusive in 2014(a year after ps4 being launched) making it 8 years supported!

so i still dont see the problem :)

Wow, is this a professional opinion ?  Cuz FACTUALLY speaking.. if I was a Sony stockholder Id keep being concerned about how much money the PS3 is losing me now.  The PS3 has lost more money then the original Xbox did. BILLIONS... and recently with the price cut  Sony lost more money although it helped sales.. it may not make a difference.  Just because you sell more lemonade then the guy on the other corner doesnt mean you take more cash home.  The odd thing is you dont seem to understand that the PS4 launch at a slightly higher cost ( lets say 399.00 ) could have hardware that cost 375.00.. meaning the PS4 could launch profitable ( something the PS3 didn't do ).. The PS4 could be a turn in the right direction for Sony.  If you think stockholders want to stay with the PS3 Im sure its border line...  The PS2 was way different.  It was profitable its entire life. From a business point of view they controlled the market.  They could milk it as long as they wanted almost.  They competed against no one.  The first xbox launched nearly two yrs after the PS2 did.. MS goal was to just launch and they knew it would be a total loss that generation financially.  The only goal was to steal some fans and they did that.  Nintendo launched an underpowered gamcube nearly a year after the PS2.. It was a perfect storm for Sony ! They could do no wrong.  Fast forward to today.. If im a Sony stockholder - I'm looking forward to the PS4 !

The main difference between PS2 and PS3 is not the huge gulf in sales.. its that PS2 was a money maker from start to finish.. PS2 made so much to the overal profitability to Sony.. that up till now stockholders have been excusing the PS3  over it.. The PS3 has been a money loser from start to finish.. even when it became "profitable" a year ago..  for each unit sold it barely made more then it cost to make a PS3.. and from a long term point of view even if they made ALOT of money off PS3's from here on out .. the fact is it will never make enough to make an overall profit for what it has lost this entire generation.  I owned a PS2.. we all did.. may of us bought more then one.  My first one last two years.. it was as much my DVD player as it was my gaming console..

If Im a stock holder Im making sure we're moving to a better ( but cheaper ) console in the PS4.. If im a stockholder and the PS3 is still losing money.. which is lost 300 million recently I'm wating to get away from under the PS3.  Yeah.. you can blame the currency issue on PS3's losses.. BUT THE TRUTH is.. they made such little profit on the PS3 they had no business lowering the price of the PS3 the point where those issues might be a factor.  From a business point of view.. as a fan or not.. the PS3 has been a poor invenstment for this generation.  The hope is next gen they will release at a decent price.. because the launch cost definately hurt.. the bluray player alone pushed the system over the edge price wise.  They actually made cuts that hurt the system overall.. the Cell processor is being held back by an under powereed GPU.

If im a stock holder Im wanting the PS4 out sooner not later.  The Ps2 lasted so long because it made money the entire time !  As it got cheaper they made even more.. a lod of cash !!!  The PS3 is not doing this.  Companies don't extend the lives of products that barely lose money and AT BEST barely keep them afloat !

The last I heard was Sony was wanting to launch AT or slightly before MS next time.. they planned to launch the PS3 with Xbox 360.. remember ? They delayed then the price of it was awful..  This time they want to launch close... and I have a feeling they will make sure this time they DO IN FACT Launch closer then last time !!

So your saying PD waits for Forza to make a move before acting? Thats not the behaviour of the supposed king of simulation......usually its they who should set the example. Thats why I don't buy it. Simply put, PS3 was a bitch to program for and they lost track of time, occasionally tweaking the game based on Forza 2 and Forza 3 features. But cmon there was little outdoing in the end. 3 Forzas, all 90+ on metacritic compared to one full GT game with a 84. They nailed some parts like the night and day cycles, but they still lacked a lot of features that Forza has. And cmon, 1000 cars. Its common sense 800 of them arent worth driving, even with the spec 2 update. 

I think Sony should rethink their launch strategies. Launching after Sega and still winning just ain't gonna cut it anymore. Today, launching later = loose. I see no reason to not rush the Vita.....trading lack of launch games for a holiday launch. Like the 3d......launching rushed leads to a head start, and room to grow and improve. Nintendo ironed out most of the 3DS kinks..........before the Vita even released. Thats the magic of a head start, rushed or not 

This comment caught my eye and made me smile. I wouldn't be so sure of that. 

Compare PS2 to Xbox lifetime sales.

Now look at PS3 and 360 lifetime sales.

Sure theres many factors to consider but im keeping it as simple as possible here. Seems MS is improving each gen where as Sony is loosing its grip. 

I also wonder what Sony will do next gen because I think things will be a lot more different next gen than what we're used to. It's not like we'll be getting 3 consoles that are almost the same like every generations had. This time, the 3 consoles might take different directions. The only one we don't know much about is the PS4.

We know MS will release the next Xbox with a better version of Kinect and because it "should" come out with every consoles every games will build around the new Kinect, just like they did with XBox Live. We also know about Windows 8 that's supposed to bring more life to PC gaming, the new Windows for tablets and phones we'll see how they implement everything together. I don't think we need to worry much for MS, unless we still care for Japan.

On Sony's side... I don't know. No new medium technology needs to be adopted except for onlive gaming but we all know that's not what they want right away.

Motion gaming is already out and full body tracking is already adopted through Kinect.

Making it super powerful? Why? So it is too difficult to develop for again? And costs a lot too? Next gen we'll see even more game engines being reused that what happened this gen with UE3. Graphics are not what sells games, next gen will see not only impressive graphics but we'll come to a point where it'll start to be beautiful enough so people will not care anymore (it has already started)... I'm not talking about fanboys on forums.

I think Sony could had made PSVita a PS4...So maybe PS4 could be portable.
But I think they need to be in 2 different market so they sell more consoles..
Anyway, I really hope Sony learned from PS3 mistakes. But then again, how could they screw up so bad while PS2 era...?
I really have no idea what PS4 can do so much different than what PS3 is already capable of.Heavy rain and Uncharted graphics are enough already.PSN is free and awesome.It has great games...

I don't see it.

Sony has reported losses 4 consecutive years in a row as a company - although PS may turn profit, it's not big enough to nullify the losses in other departments, which are most likely affecting financials of the company as a whole, and with the Vita launch around the corner and most likely loss per unit, I don't see Sony making enough money to BUILD the console or being afford another launch till at least 2014 - Maybe when Vita becomes more profitable and the profits are squeezed out of PS3.

GT6 is likely as a launch title, but it'll definitely be there within a year of launch.
