Forums - Sales - Wii and PS3 gaining market share, 360 losing it

If ps3 continues to outsell the X360 by atleast 50k it will be at 21% by the end of the month.

 2008 end of year predictions:

PS3: 22M

360: 25M

wii: 40M

Well, I predict 360 will come in last this generation, so, yes, it will continue to lose marketshare.

They'll almost be dead locked by years end. (Sony and MS). Sony will take lead over MS by mid 2009. Slowly, but surely. Playstations name is catching up with them.

It's really not that strange Microsoft is losing marketshare, as they started out with 100%. But I expect Microsoft to fall below 30% at the end of the year, which won't be pretty.

After a few weeks now, it's obvious that the 360 keeps losing market share to the Wii and PS3. Wii and PS3 have been gaining, 360 slowly losing.

I wonder if this'll change?

Currently it's:

Wii - 43.9%
360 - 36%
PS3 - 20.1%

Wii will continue to gain market share, but what of the battle between the PS3 and 360?

If you look at the Wii since launch, it actually sold more than the 360 and PS3 combined. Now that Wii production levels have increased substantially (by a fact of 2 over the same time last year) I suspect the Wii will continue to outsell them combined by an even wider margin.

As the Wii approaches 50% market share, the 360 and PS3 would converge at 25% market share if they reached the same installed base size. This would be a hell of a lot of moving for the PS3 -- so as you can see, it will take a lot for the PS3 to reach 25% market share.

That is all but certain.  When the Wii reaches 50% market share and if the PS3 continues to outsell the 360, the 360 will be well below 30% market share.  Microsoft's saving grace right now as their one-year head start.  I believe that will be almost completely squandered in 2009.

Uhm even if the 360 outsells the PS3 by 50k a week its still going to lose market share for a while. The 360 is losing market share because it is not able to maintain the ratio it established with its year head start...

In short the market shares have not stabilized to where they should be at yet. Based on the sales in 2007 the stability point is somewhere around this:

Wii - 51.27%
360 - 24.96
PS3 - 23.77

Keep in mind this isn't definitive it is ONLY an approximate

Unless 360 keeps selling 36% of the sales every week, of COURSE ITS LOOSING MARKET SHARE

im getting kinda sick of these threads, i wonder if people have taken a math class....(no offense soriku im used to this from you =P)

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Well like Lost said, unless the 360 keeps selling 36% of sales a every week. We can see Xbox 360 market share shrink to low standards.

I think it was because of the recent SKU (40GB) from Sony. Which helped them out real good this past holiday season.

Yes, at this rate wii will be around 66% market share leaving 34 percent to 360 and ps3...... split

The 360 would have to start selling 36% of sales... The only reason it has that now is because it had a year head start and started the year close to 100%... as sql mentioned it's only selling about 25% in 2007, and so it will continue to drift toward that number if sales continue at the current level.
