Hello fellow VGCharterz,
TruckOSaurus here, welcoming you to the second edition of The Week That Was! A feature that has been hailed as "okay" and "readable". The New York Times also described it has "something I never heard of, stop calling me!". Let me recap what this is all about for the slow of mind (which are very few on the site if we are to believe a recent forum poll result): I take the week's marking events in the gaming world as well as in our forum community and make a nice little summary for your enjoyment.
--- Gaming news ---
Okay, I'm exaggerating, there were some interesting gaming news this week.
* The early bird always get f...ed *
It's no secret that Nintendo's new handheld, the 3DS, has been selling cold kinda dry cakes since it's release. To counter that trend, Nintendo has announced a considerable price cut for their new device (news) just a few months after its release. Hopefully this will be enough to get it back on the right track. As for me, I'm still waiting on some interesting games to justify the purchase of what would be my first handheld ever.
* What is a man? *
Another beloved franchise hits its 25th aniversary this year: Castlevania. If you love this franchise like I do, you'll be happy to know that Konami plans to " do something" to celebrate the milestone (news). I'm not screaming "Day One purchase" yet but it's at least... uh..."something".

The financial results are in for Nintendo and they're not good. For the quarter ending June 2011 Nintendo grossed $1.12b while incurring losses of $323m. Nintendo also lowered their profit forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2012 by 81% reducing their expected profits to *only* $253m. You'll find all the details here
News from the Playstation family
Sony also posted its June 2011 results. The company has had revenues of 18.46b for the quarter and has lost $191m. Of course, Sony being much more than a gaming company, we don't really know what was the contribution of the Playstation line. What we do know are the sales of those products which are 1.8m units for the PS3, 1.8m also for the PSP and 1.4m for the 11 years old PS2. You'll find all details here
--- Community news ---
* VGChartz laughs! *
What's funnier than knock, knock jokes? If you answered "Just about anything" you're right but it doesn't mean a thread about said jokes can't be entertaining, click here to read what our fellow members thought up on this subject. Now, if the previous thread is not enough to statisfy your need for comedy you might wanna try the "Why did the chicken cross the road?" thread .
* A Gamer talks *
GamrTalk had it's third installment this week and Carl2291 was the gamer interviewed so if you wanna learn more about our friend Carl head on here and don't forget to vote FOR the removal of his signature that I've personally nicknamed "Jigglytits".
* The eternal struggle *
The greatest questions in life are those to which we can never find a definitive answer and they are the questions we ask ourselves time and time again. Going by these standards, the question "Which is best? Achievements or trophies?" is certainly one of them. This week we had another debate surrounding this topic and in case you're wondering how many times we've had this debate before, the answer is four:
