Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Apparantly the 360 won 2007...

Remember this wasn't about market share, sales, or business, this was what he felt was the best game system for gaming for 2007

So, in other terms, it comes down to which system you're more fanboy towards. Because, let's face it, his argument obviously shows he's an Xbox fanboy.

Let's see... point 1, well, the only games I care about on that list were the multiplat titles... so, that's a void argument.

Point 2, Nintendo was going for simple and friendly, so that's an awfully invalid point to make about it anyhow. You can't exactly criticize someone for the exact successful move that they make.

Point 3, the VC isn't about delivering new - that's what WiiWare is about. The VC is about delivering experiences identical to the classics (save for a few outside features, like that seen in PKMN Snap!). Poor argument.

Point 4, most people don't care about having their gaming system be a media hub. Personally, I'd rather my PC, which will always be able to do "media hub" features better... be what I use as my media hub. When I buy my own 360, I'll likely be getting either an Arcade and putting in a seperate harddrive, or a Premium, with only 20 gigs. There's absolutely no need for more than that when my PC offers me nearly 1TB of space. Side note: Dangit, I keep typing "hug" instead of "hub". Wtf.

Point 5, this is what makes this guy sound the most fanboyish... and the most like the typical "hardcore gamer". Every single person I've ever met that made that argument for a system was the kind of person that seems to love their huge collection of FPS, with a few titles mixed in here and there (Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, etc). So, so very typical. See, most other gamers (see: real gamers) have a greater appreciation for the variety one can receive from the DS. Not to mention, it goes places. I have friends at work that I play my DS against. They live fairly distant from me, and have different off-days than I do, so we don't really ever get to hang out and play together. But we can play DS together at work! Sure, we can do the online thing... but most of them don't have anything of consequence anyhow (for instance, my friend Jim has zero games for his PS3, one for his Wii (Chicken Shoot, wtf), and three for his 360 (Halo 3, Rockband, and Mass Effect). I don't care about any of those except RockBand). I know eight people that have purchased/planned to purchase a DS simply because they experienced it through me and loved it. I haven't seen that happen with the 360. The point I'm making is that it's all a matter of preference, and to make claims that the DS can't awe people is pretty foolish.

If you want to argue which delivered the better experience this year, then it's definitely a terribly subjective (and mainly fanboyish argument, as I believe I've proven). Where that comes down to being able to be proven (see: become objective) would be to see which sold more, then... which shows the DS in first with the Wii in second.

This article is lose. How can you discount DS? And for those wack reasons?

XBOX 360 line up of games looks bleak in DS light. Argument failed.

He discounted the DS for shit reasons o.O

Also I don't agree with him overall but he is allowed his opinion and this is a very opinionated award. Basically he prefers X360 and is telling the world why.

Oh and his TMNT point, sure XBLA may upgrade games but doesn't VC just blow XBLA away as far as number and quality of games goes?

Glad to see one of the hi def consoles win. :)

Interesting that you should say that.  Many new 360 and PS3 games are bashed by Wii owners because some of them feel that they're basically offering the same old thing.  They then praise Wii games for being different or adding something new to gaming (motion controls).  Yet in this case it's the XBLA games that are offering something new compared to VC games which are literally the same old games and you're defending VC.

Oh and Grey Acumen you've gained a lot of respect from me because you've shown in this thread that you're consistent in your beliefs and are willing to give another console credit for something if it deserves it.

Snap!

I think that as far as games go, the 360 probably had the worst first year of the lot, but its second year was superior to the first year of the other two consoles. The Wii probably wins in exclusives (especially if you don't count PC+360 as exclusive), but the sheer amount of multiplats puts MS in the lead, with the PS3 far behind.

Well said.  Like, really well said.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Thanks, though I will refute your point about the new games, as even though some might consider it expensive to pay $10 for a VC game, it's still not $60 for a shinier version of an old game.

I'm a strong supporter of the Wii, I believe it will succeed over the other consoles, and I WANT it to do that. However I'm also a strong believer in tough love, so if I see something I feel it could have done better, I point it out. I didn't originally know that LIVE had updated those games that way, but I did know that it was something I had wanted to see in these VC updates, and it's something that I am dissapointed not to see. If everyone keeps defending a dissapointing choice, then there will never be any hope for that choice to be revised.

I'm not saying update the gameplay or graphics, or even fix any bugs in the code, but as long as all the additions are optional (OPTIONAL motion control use, OPTIONAL online multiplayer) then there is NO possible way this can DETRACT from these titles. "Oh noes! The game now lets me play online with my friends if I want to. I can still totally play it the original way it was intended if I want, nor am I ever forced to play online, but if I ever get the urge to do so, it's there, so it somehow ruins the original feel of the game!!" BULLSHIT

What I'm hoping is that Nintendo will wise up and start working on putting up something like "Wii Mario Kart 64" Which would basically be all of $2 - $5, and can only be bought if you've already puchased Mario Kart 64 (if you haven't already bought it, it would prompt you to do so), and would contain additional code to support online multiplayer and allow you to use the Wiimote by itself as a steering wheel if you chose to.

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!

Currently wrapped up in: Half Life, Portal, and User Created Source Mods
Games I want: (Wii)Mario Kart, Okami, Bully, Conduit,  No More Heroes 2 (GC) Eternal Darkness, Killer7, (PS2) Ico, God of War1&2, Legacy of Kain: SR2&Defiance

My Prediction: Wii will be achieve 48% market share by the end of 2008, and will achieve 50% by the end of june of 09. Prediction Failed.

First off I think it can be reasonably argued that the 360 won 2007. However anyone touting an opinion of who won fails in my eyes if they don't point out any faults for their console of choice. You can say MS overcame the RROD but you can't ignore it happened. You can say Sony found a way to lower prices in time to make a difference but you can say the PS3 wasn't in for trouble at $600. We may be all excited for Wii are and online smash bros for the Wii but we are still waiting for serious online.

If I were to pick a winner it would be based on software sales. The DS is the definite winner. If we talk about home consoles that would be the Wii. If we talk america only that is the 360. So I declare the 360 the console of choice for American gamers in 2007.

Multiple comments in this thread talk about the higher software sales on the 360. Have they looked at Japan where the Wii has a 10 million unit lead for the year?

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.
