Forums - Nintendo - Sales Expectations for Super Pokemon Scramble (3DS)

After the encouraging debut of Zelda: OoT 3D in Japan, I'm thinking ahead about the next software release that may put up significant numbers and potentially drive hardware sales also (skipping past Tales). Super Pokemon Scramble is releasing at the end of July (27th), and while Pokemon spinoffs don't perform nearly as strongly as mainline games, they still put up solid numbers in Japan. Here are the numbers for the Pokemon spinoffs on the DS.

Game First Week Lifetime
Mystery Dungeon: Darkness/Time 593k 1.54 mil
Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue N/A 829k
Pokemon Ranger 197k 770k
Ranger: Shadows of Almia 242k 622k
Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky 141k 442k
Ranger: Guardian Signs 179k 576k
Pokemon: Trozei! 58k 320k
Pokemon Dash 55k 375k

The newest DS spinoff is the typing game which launched to 58k, and is currently at 129k.

There is a pretty big range in first week sales figures ranging from decent to huge. The worst performing spinoffs seem to be unique genres (typing, racing, puzzle), and since Super Pokemon Rumble is an action game, that makes me think it will perform better than those games. But I'm not sure it will be able to reach the levels of the bottom performing Mystery Dungeion or Ranger games.

So based on that I'm expecting first week sales of Super Pokemon Ruble to be around 80k, and lifetime around 400k.

What does everyone else think, and how do you think it will impact 3DS hardware sells? Anyone think there is a chance it will top Zelda as having the highest 1st week of a 3DS title yet?

Wow your really going at it on Pokemon eh?

This chart really shows that Pokemon as a brand is truly diminishing. I mean look at your chart, almost consitantly from the first spin off released to the last sales have been horrible when compared to other Pokemon games and past spin offs. With 3DS sales doing so poorly your truly giving Pokemon Scramble a major benefit of the doubt, with current sales it might be hard for Scramble to ever compete with its past spin-off prediscessors then to actually succeed in sales on par.

As for topping Zelda, dude read your chart theirs no way a Pokemon Spin-off is going to beat one of the highest ever rated video games in all of history. When people think Nintendo they do not think oh man a Pokemon Spin off, they think Pokemon Red/Blue, Mario64 and Loz:OoT. You gotta be high to even think Scramble has a chance in hell of coming close to OoT's sales.

This thread is confusing. On the one part you have a chart to prove how poorly Pokemon spin-offs are performing these days then you have the audacity to suggest that a poorly selling Pokemon Spin off has a chance at dethroning Zelda.

The day Scramble outsells Zelda:OoT is the day I retire from gaming. I mean I will have no faith left in gamers! Please for the love of Mohammed let Scramble die, may Nintendo bring us a true Pokemon RPG for the 3DS soon. I mean look at when the DS launched and had Pokemon Dash, the game was horrible, yet I guess you might have suggested it would beat Super Mario 64 lol.

No offense but its pretty whack, who else thinks Scramble has a chance at outselling OoT? or heck even taking on some of those other spin offs listed?

Kinda off-topic but the 3DS needs new IPs or new Mario games. These spin-offs and remakes aren't doing it any good.

This is full featured Pokemon Rumble, right? Pokemon Rumble was fun and I liked the simplicity of it.

pokemon mystery dungeon are great spin-off's and they sold really good I can say

haven't played pokemon ranger so i can't say

pokemon scramble is great on Wii, I guess it can sell on 3DS if they give it enough depth, but it's hard to predict

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
