E3 is NOT the biggest conference anymore. The turnout for GDC both last year and this year was by far larger. Since E3 was changed, people chose different events to show their guns off at. Need I mention that Phantom Hourglass was announced for the first time at GDC? A lot of firepower is left for different audiences now. So no, saying that E3 isn't as big is NOT a hollow excuse.
