Turns out. The 60 gig is going the way of the dodo as well. As of august 1st, the only PS3 that sony sells will be a 600 dollar 80 gb version. The 500 dollar price for the 60 gig is a clearance price, and nothing more. Not a price drop, its a 1 month sale.

I don't buy it. Look at it from Sony's perspective: they can say that they're phasing out the cheaper version, and while it might not be great PR, it makes it feel like a limited-time offer that people should rush out and grab. "Get it while it's still here, because when it's gone it's back to $600!"

If they're planning to drop the 80 gig to $499 after 60 gig stocks run out, it would be a stupid move to reveal that - no one would buy it now. So they say they're sticking with the $599 price point on it.

Like I said, I don't buy it. It would be suicide for them to go into another holiday season at $600. I'm still going with the theory that they're phasing out the 60 gig, then dropping the price on the 80 gig (without Motorstorm, obviously) to fill the void.
