I thought their presentation was fine, Nintendo simply wasn't targeting the vocal hardcore gamer. I knew even before I checked online that pretty much the whole Internet would detest the presentation, and that the weeks ahead would be full of "Nintendo is destroying gaming!" rants. And... yeah, that's pretty much what I found. :)
What we're going to see is yet another demonstration of how the "hardcore" Internet denizens are ultimately a minor player in the gaming industry. This week, every major gaming website/blog will declare Nintendo the "loser" at E3, and write many many stories about how the Wii is slipping, and Microsoft/Sony are going to catch up. Everyone will then be mystified when the Wii continues to outsell its competitors exactly as before. Wii Music and Wii Sports 2 will both sell vastly more copies than any Kid Icarus or Pikmin game would do!
I don't even need to read the news, the reactions are so predictable it's just funny. ![]()
