The problem is just because they "need" to have an announcement that will match or even exceed the impact of FF360, it doesn't mean that they will be able to pull it off. I'm sure they'll try to have some big unveiling, but it could just as well prove to be another "turd green Halo 360 console" as a legitimate megaton. I'll be really curious to see how it turns out.
On Nintendo's side (I know, we're talking Sony here), I think their "megaton" is this new 1-1 controller. It will have great appeal to their audience, and yet have no real impact on Sony or MS owners.
