I look at it this way, Stinger is trying to tell his investors that they aren't being thwomped by the Wii because they aren't competing. But by simply using the word expensive niche device one has to ask what he's comparing the Wii to?
The Vii? The Mwii? There is nothing else like it on the mass market.
He goes so far as to say that Blu-Ray means the difference, clearly this is a marker for Investors to bail out. Sony's investment isn't in the gaming industry it's in technology and technology is not the retail industry that gaming is.
Gaming needs people to play games and technology needs gaming to be sold to people.
I was hoping Sony would go it's own direction though - this probably means no Wii-like controller at E3 also. Blu-Ray won't take off until boot leggers see a reason to buy the medium.
For now bootlegers love compressing to DvD.
