technically it is a first person shooter. Remember the person aspect is not saying a person has to be seen, it's just the wording you use. In reality first person describes that you are the main character and the main character is you. Meaning technically first person games shouldn't even show the main character at all because you outside of the TV you are suposed to be the character. Really 3rd person would describe better the games where you see the gun and games you see the entire character. But most shooters show the gun or a hand to give just a little more connection and still can be called an FPS because you still don't see the face apparently.
Although we separate light gun shooters from what we describe as an FPS, in every way the are a First Person shooter, probably moreso to the definition than what we deem a first person shooter.
I'm not suggesting anything else to this topic because I know shooter fanboys on whatever platforms will get angry, but that is the technical stuff of this matter. Take it for what its worth.
